£20 Universal Credit uplift set to end before the winter, Cabinet minister signals

Evening Standard.

Exclusive: Pensions Secretary tells the Standard: ‘We need to try to get people into work.’

The £20 uplift to Universal Credit is set to end before the winter, a Cabinet minister signalled today.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has already extended the £20-per-week benefit boost to the end of September.

But asked if the government would consider doing it again during a winter surge, Work and Pension Secretary Therese Coffey told the Standard: “We need to try to get people into work.”

Ms Coffey said she was not anticipating the Government would have to take measures “out of the ordinary” this winter.

It comes after Boris Johnson warned there could still be another surge of Covid-19 during the winter period.

Here’s Coffey at ‘work’.

  1. Family household expenses always increase in Winter with heating costs and run up to Christmas. It’s undoubtedly going to put more pressure on the foodbanks, and probably lead to a rise in arrears in Rent, Council Tax, etc.

I can see some advisors will try to come into the job interview with you to make sure you get the job, for outcome payments whether you are suitable or not for the position.

      • But even if Providers have your CV and submit job applications on your behalf, it still doesn’t guarantee an interview, and an interview doesn’t guarantee a job offer. I’ve been rejected by Agencies! Employers don’t like to see big gaps in employment on your CV and aren’t readily persuaded to employ people with existing health problems, or those who live 15 miles but have no transport. They mostly, generally, want younger fitter people who have worked recently and either live nearby or own a car. They don’t want people in their 50s/60s with big gaps in employment history and who might have a history of Depression/Anxiety, and high cholesterol, diabetes, hernias, arthritis, bad backs, dodgy knees, etc. and no transport. DWP and Providers do your worst, I am unemployable!

The “red wall” Tories on the other hand might be up for doing something about it; in fact it was protests from Tory MPs which forced Sunak not to withdraw the £20.00 uplift last month but extend it to September. When autumn comes around all hell will break loose again if the Ebeneezer Coffey tries to snatch a massive £1,000.00 a year away from people struggling on the margins even when receiving it.

I was lead to believe this was for a proper job and not registering with an employment agency for them to find me work in the type of work I was looking for, the advisor from Action 4 Employment got fired, he also gave some dodgy final writing warnings to some people as well for those seeking work, some of the positions were not suitable for the candidates.

When I first got sent to Action 4 employment I was told by the job centre. I be working there (paid job) I could do IT courses etc. I should have paid more attention to where I did a work trail for one of their rivals who were also biding for funding to watch A4e. 11. Does an organisation need my consent?
    Share(Opens Share panel)
Does an organisation always need my consent?
No. Organisations don’t always need your consent to use your personal data. They can use it without consent if they have a valid reason. These reasons are known in the law as a ‘lawful basis’, and there are six lawful bases organisations can use.

What counts as a valid reason or ‘lawful basis’?
The six lawful bases for using data are:

    Consent
    Contract
    Legal Obligation
    Vital interests
    Public task
    Legitimate interests
These are explained in detail below.

    https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/does-an-organisation-need-my-consent/

    Example

Company Z asks you if you would like to receive a newsletter by email from their partner company, Company Y. This is entirely optional but you decide you do want to receive Company Y’s newsletter so you tick the box provided on their online form. The lawful basis being used in this instance is consent.

thats what i think the providers are doing via there web sites and terms and conditions of use to form contracts.

but the problem is there braking the gdpr and they know it as without this data accounts can not be formed as they need a email address to create a digital user account and is the sole basis of the company’s to turn ppl in to profit units for 2 years and a £2000 delivery fee from the dwp.

When is processing ‘necessary’ for a contract?
‘Necessary’ does not mean that the processing must be absolutely essential or ‘the only way’ to perform the contract or take relevant pre-contractual steps. However, it must be more than just useful, and more than just part of your standard terms. It must be a targeted and proportionate step which is integral to delivering the contractual service or taking the requested action. This lawful basis does not apply if there are other reasonable and less intrusive ways to deliver the contractual service or take the steps requested

The processing must be necessary to perform the contract with this particular person. If the processing is instead necessary to maintain your business model more generally, or is included in your terms for other business purposes beyond delivering the contractual service, this lawful basis will not apply and you should consider another lawful basis, such as legitimate interests.!!!!

    • What would the UK Government stand to gain from secretly and deliberately planning another lockdown, further alienating more of the electorate, further damaging the economy, risking a growth in unemployment, putting businesses at risk and generally costing the country a fortune? Why? It may well transpire that another lockdown IS necessary, in part due to the Indian variant, but that’s a different scenario.

However, I received a text over ten days ago advising me to book my next appointment asap! I am not being paranoid but clearly we are not being given the whole picture here. I think the government are rather more worried about the Indian variant than they’re letting on. And furthermore, I think they dismantled the Nightingale hospitals far too hastily.

      • There is a little bit of chaos in the vaccination appointments from what I’ve heard, but it’s not surprising considering the numbers involved and the fact that people need to get vaccinated twice. On the whole it’s not going too badly though in my opinion, all things considered. I’m lucky to have had both my jabs, first was 28th Jan. second was 15th April. As for the Indian variant, I reckon it is quite a worry and we’ll just have to see how it develops.

    • They probably think that the new Restart scheme plus the extra 13,500 Work Coaches will solve all problems, whereas the opposite is most likely true. More Schemes and more Work Coaches means more Conditionality and rules to comply with, which in the real world translates to more Sanctions. More Sanctions means more debt and arrears, an increase in homelesness and foodbank use. Just what people need on top of a lengthy pandemic. Probably lead to more suicides too. Society falls apart at the seams and the rich carry on as normal. Typical Tory shambles.

    May 18, 2021 at 8:23 am

  31. The DWP has ordered jobcentre staff to return to work from Monday 17 May. PCS has received reports that work coaches have been instructed that they must do 9 face to face interviews per day for 18 to 24 year olds and 5 interviews per day for over 25 year old. There have been variations in reports to PCS but there has been a consistent message to work coaches that a massive ramp up in face to face interviews must begin from Monday – PCS Union Site

I wish they would keep to the times they say when making phone appointments. Ringing up an hour early, or 30 mins late, only makes extra stress for the claimant. After all, if you turned up to sign-on 30 mins late, you’d likely be sanctioned.

      • There’s nothing worse than having it hanging over you all day, and in some ways better to get it over with earlier on so you’ve got the rest of the day to your self stress-free, but on the other hand a face-to-face appointment later in the day often means that they don’t have much time to hassle you and want to get you dealt with quickly , signed and off out of the way as they are behind schedule running late by 4.00pm.

    18 May 2021

    Dear Sally Robbins,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information (FoI) request received on 7 May. You wrote:

“Please provide me with any recorded information held by the DWP detailing the exact
method used by the DWP when transferring a legacy JSA claimant over to Universal
    Credit.

Until recently, my understanding was that legacy claimants would be given a letter
advising them that they were being transferred onto Universal Credit and that they would
have to apply online themselves. However during a recent telephone work search review,
my work coach told me that DWP would set up an online account for the claimant. A link
will then be sent to the claimant’s email address for them to set a password. The
claimant is issued with a user name and after that the transfer is complete.”

    DWP Response

Following a search of our paper and electronic records, we have established that the
information you requested is not held by this Department.

This is because we have not yet finalised our plans for exactly how managed migration – that
is the legal term for the process of transferring people claiming legacy benefits, but whose
circumstances have not changed, to Universal Credit – will work. Following the outbreak of
COVID-19 in Spring 2020, we suspended our pilot activities in this area as part of our focus
on delivering the Government’s economic response to the pandemic. People in receipt of
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (one of the six legacy benefits being replaced) are not
currently being transferred to Universal Credit by DWP.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us quoting the reference number
    above.

    Yours sincerely,

DWP Central Freedom of Information Team
    Department for Work and Pensions

      • Antisocial personality disorder
Personality disorders are mental health conditions that affect how someone thinks, perceives, feels or relates to others.

Antisocial personality disorder is a particularly challenging type of personality disorder characterised by impulsive, irresponsible and often criminal behaviour.

Someone with antisocial personality disorder will typically be manipulative, deceitful and reckless, and will not care for other people’s feelings.

Like other types of personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder is on a spectrum, which means it can range in severity from occasional bad behaviour to repeatedly breaking the law and committing serious crimes.

Psychopaths are considered to have a severe form of antisocial personality disorder.

    • That’s a very valid point Jeff, one that is being completely ignored and overlooked by all concerned, the government and all politicians, economists, media pundits, etc. No one has even brought up the fact that a whole year of automatic Benefit payments without interviews or jobsearch checks, without signing appointments, without Jobcentres or Work Coaches has run perfectly smoothly with no pitfalls or drawbacks whatsoever, not a hitch, thereby proving that none of it is or ever was the slightest bit necessary.
