Meanwhile, The Manchester Evening News reports:

Ring of steel set to go up as Manchester prepares for Conservative Party conference.

The infamous ‘ring of steel’ will soon go up around Manchester Central for The Conservative Party conference as thousands of politicians – and protesters – descend upon the city centre.

Scores of Tories will flood into Manchester next Sunday (October 4) for the party’s annual conference.

Around 80,000 activists and protesters are expected to crash the party, as demonstrations are held against the government’s austerity drive.

The event is expected to attract 12,000 delegates and exhibitors and generate an economic boost for the city of £29m.

It will be the fourth time the Conservatives have held their conference in Manchester since 2009.

The usual ‘ring of steel’ around the conference venue will be erected next week, with road closures in place throughout the event from Sunday, October 4, to Wednesday, October 7.

  6. “If you find love this Valentine’s Day be sure to inform the DWP, as you are no longer entitled to single person’s benefits”. that includes all those who are on those dating sites, we’ll be watching.

    • Here is an example.

Single mum has benefits stopped because HMRC thinks local SHOP is her boyfriend

Debbie Balandis says her child tax credits have been stopped because her bank account showed a ‘Martin McColl’ – the newsagents where she collects her benefits

    • You can bet your bottom dollar the DWP trawls those horseshit ‘dating sites as well as the cops. Same goes for Facebook. Facebook is where the cops get most of the intelligence… 😉

      • Yeah, had to visit a cop-shop recently and you now how you eye-spy as much as you can… 😉 Anyone, went past a room with an over-arching stench of bacon coming from it which was full of them all sat on web-sites. If you walk past your local knick when it’s dark and you have good eyesight you can see them sat on the web. The web is crawling with cops!

      • They are being paid good hard-working tax-payers money to sit on their fat bacon arses trawling web-sites, setting up fake profiles etc. You can bet the DWP will have a back office of them too trawling the web. You also have to bear in mind too that sites such as Facebook give a ‘master-key’ to ‘law enforcement agencies’ and ‘government agencies’ i.e the cops and DWP for the ‘prevention and detection of crime; it’s in the ‘terms and conditions’ that you didn’t bother to read.

  9. Universal Credit and Universal Jobmatch.

The online application for Universal Credit ends with a request that the claimant should register with Universal Jobmatch.

The page states that in order to prepare for an interview, the claimant ‘must’ register with Universal Jobmatch and update their CV using universal Jobmatch.

This implies that these actions are compulsory and that alternative job-search and CV preparation are excluded.

I would be obliged if you could quote the relevant Regulations that make these actions compulsory and which exclude alternatives.

  10. A nationwide charity has called on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to halt the roll-out of Personal Independence Payment’s (PIP).

Sense, a national charity which supports deafblind children and adults, says evidence exists to suggest the new disability benefit is inaccessible to deafblind and multisensory impaired claimants.

PIP is replacing DLA for all disabled adults aged 16 to 64 and is being rolled out to all areas of the Country from today (1 October). Disabled people currently receiving DLA will be reassessed for PIP, which has much tougher eligibility requirements.

    • Also on welfareweekly.

The Scottish Government has pledged £192,000 to help disabled people and carers through the benefits application process, it has been announced today.

Pilots will be launched in Dundee, Falkirk, Glasgow and Midlothian to support people who need to be assessed for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

The projects will be overseen by The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) and delivered by four local advocacy providers, who will provide one-to-one tailored support to vulnerable people who are struggling to navigate the complex and complicated benefits system.

    • Many people are still convinced that you have to let Coachy snoop on your UJM account as well.

      Andrew Coates

      October 2, 2015 at 3:48 pm

      • I fully agree with that for the amount of people I see come to the food bank they tell me that they have created a UJM account because they had to and had to give the DWP access to their account, I tell everyone who comes to the food bank that both are voluntary. most of them don’t believe me, they believe everything they are told by advisers, many think it’s all normal.

when your trying to help people, some of those people think your not helping them, it’s very frustrating because you know what may happen to them, as you’ll know.

  11. OT More targets – GP practices ‘offered rewards’ for not referring patients to hospitals.

Clinical commissioning groups offering ‘incentives’ to GPs to not send patients for consultations with specialists, scans and operations, investigation finds.

Dr Rosie Loftus, joint chief medical officer at Macmillan Cancer Support, said of the findings: “It is very worrying that GPs could be put under pressure not to refer people who might have cancer, against their clinical judgment, because of targets.

  12. Will the same thing happen here. only time will tell.

A German woman is being booted out of her home of 23 years to make room for migrants.

Gabrielle Keller is the second such case to emerge in the country as it struggles to cope with an expected influx of some 800,000 refugees this year.

The 56-year-old condemned the move, saying: ‘I think it’s a scandal to throw tenants out of their apartments. I can’t see the sense of it.’
