Campaigning for Unemployed Rights.

Young Unemployed Should Pick up Ragwort, Says Tebbit.

With Suffolk County MyGo being set up in Ipswich, the Conservative linked Charity has received a suggestion from prominent local (Bury St Edmunds) Tory, Lord Tebbit.

The former Conservative cabinet minister Lord Tebbit has said young unemployed people should be made to pull up ragwort from roadside verges in return for benefits.

The 83-year-old Tory grandee made the proposal in a letter to Matt Shardlow, chief executive of a charity called Buglife, which is concerned about the effect of declining ragwort on bees and rare insects.

In his reply to the charity, Tebbit said ragwort was a major problem in his part of East Anglia and proposed it could be weeded out by “Neets” – young people who are not in education, work or training – and “low level criminals”.

He wrote: “I suggest you come to the Norfolk/Suffolk border areas of East Anglia. Landowners who wish to control ragwort face an impossible task when roadside verges are dominated by it to an extent I cannot remember in the past.

“There would be little cost to bring that under control if Neets and low level criminals were required as part of their contribution to the society which finances them, or which they have abused … to uproot this weed.”

Tebbit later told the Guardian: “Given a bit of organisation, they [unemployed young people] would be happy doing something constructive. That’s something constructive for them. It’s appealing, it gets rid of a weed which is a danger to some animals and helps landowners in the cultivation of their land.

“That was my thought that caused me to suggest the idea … in a way it’s a form of national service, of doing something for society in a way in which anyone unless they are physically disabled can participate.”

Asked whether he acknowledged some might find the idea of forced labour in return for benefits controversial, he said: “It’s workfare but I think there are some powerful arguments for workfare and so does [Labour MP] Frank Field for example. It’s not a way-out idea in that sense.”

Guardian.

For the sake of scientific honesty we add this (via Twitter BE) from the admirable “Ragwort Facts” site.

This site has been written to inform the public of the true scientific data surrounding ragwort. It exists to balance the hysteria generated in the British press. Whilst ragwort is of course toxic, it is only one of a great many toxic plants and the stories that have been published do not accurately reflect what is known from the international scientific literature . Many false claims are made about this plant, often when investigated you find there is a vested interest, selling ragwort controls of questionable value, or maybe using the hysteria to help raise an organisation’s public profile. Other people, naturally worried about animal cruelty have been convinced by the false stories and lacking the background to determine the truth are genuinely, but unnecessarily worried. This site should serve to inform the public as to the facts in a rational, informative manner. This enables land managers to take rational decisions about ragwort without falling victim to rumour and falsehoods.

  4. …and you can’t pull up mature Ragwort, it has deep roots. If you have to remove it, best time is when it’s young and the first rosettes are still flattish to the ground and even that will leave bits of root to regrow. Just leave it alone. Horses/sheep only eat it when it’s dried, as it appears in hay, even then they won’t eat much of it. Horses won’t eat it whilst it’s growing as it’s more bitter than IDS. Tebbit clearly hasn’t spoken to his gardening staff, the redundant slacker.

  5. Victory!

This just came into our In-Box,

“MPs are to hold a new inquiry into the government’s brutal benefit sanctions regime – following a campaign backed by the Daily Mirror.

It has been triggered by Labour MP Debbie Abrahams, who called on the Work and Pensions Select Committee to investigate after the Government refused an inquiry.

The move follows a 200,000-strong petition set up by Gill Thompson in July following the death of her diabetic brother David Clapson at the age of 59. David, a former soldier who served in Northern Ireland, died destitute after being sanctioned by the Job Centre for missing a single meeting.

Abrahams said she had been inspired by Gill’s bravery to keep fighting for an investigation. “Gill has shown great courage, in the wake of her brother’s appalling death, to take on this cruel government and their inhuman policy of targeting vulnerable people who are reliant on social security,” Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, said.

“The huge response to the Mirror’s reporting on how claimants are being stitched up and sanctioned, and over 200,000 signatures on Gill’s petition, is proof that the British people will not stand by and do nothing when they see vulnerable people suffering.”

Last night Gill said she was hoping to be called to give evidence. “This has been a huge battle, but it isn’t just for my David who died penniless, it’s for all the people who have been sanctioned and who have written to me telling their stories,” she said last night. “It’s an absolute scandal.”

Organisations including the Trussell Trust have repeatedly linked the sanctions regime to the soaring number of people going to foodbanks.

“Ministers in the DWP have used every trick in the book to avoid being held to account,” Abrahams said. “This inquiry will leave them nowhere to hide and that’s why they’ve fought so hard to avoid one.”

The battle for an inquiry dates back to November 2013, when Abrahams got Employment minister Esther McVey to agree to one – only for her to backtrack.

In July 2014, the government instead published the Matthew Oakley Report into sanctioning – on the day the House of Commons rose for summer.

Oakley highlighted systematic problems with the sanctions regime – but did not look into whether they are being unfairly applied. Critics condemned it as a “whitewash”.

Last month, Gill spoke at the Daily Mirror fringe at Labour Party conference. “David had no electricity on his key and the coroner said he had no food in his stomach,” Gill said. “He died alone and hungry. He wasn’t a scrounger – he worked for 29 years and served in Northern Ireland in the Army.”

He died surrounded by job applications. “But he missed one meeting and he was sanctioned,” Gill said.

      • As for section 4 of The Electronic Signatures Regulations

DONT FORGET what I said recently about IMPLIED CONSENT.

Claimants are tricked into this everyday like for instance the moment you begin to jobsearch on UJM, you INSTANTLY give IMPLIED CONSENT for the website to place cookies on the PC your using (makes no difference whether you own the PC or not) at the time. Some of these cookies remain on the system for a long period of time (known as super cookies), that cannot be deleted through your browser as they actually reside on the operating system (windows 7 for example). You would need administration privilege to install a program like CCLEANER to remove them. DWP and PROVIDER currently REFUSE an such installation.

Their are also other cookies that TRACK YOU both on the operating system your using and the internet you search on.

DWP/PROVIDER CLAIM you can delete them BUT in a manner of speaking this is an OUT and OUT LIE as the moment you use another page on say UJM, they are INSTANTLY REINSTALLED.

TO PUT IT BLUNTLY ITS THE EGG BEFORE THE CHICKEN, meaning they ALWAYS GET THE INFORMATION BEFORE YOU CAN DELETE IT AND THATS A INDISPUTABLE FACT.

THERE IS NO WAY TO USE UJM WITHOUT COOKIES BEING INVOLVED,PERIOD.

This is why DWP CANNOT even under jobseeker direction FORCE you to use UJM even to look into your account daily as they so have prescribed to the unknowing WITHOUT YOUR LAWFUL AND FREELY GIVEN CONSENT. Again I reiterate IT MATTERS NOT WHO OWNS THE PC and or INTERNET CONNECTION as the DWP mantra is, “we own the system so have excepted the cookies”. This is a FRAUDULENT LIE as THEY MUST STILL GAIN YOUR LAWFUL AND FREELY GIVEN CONSENT PRIOR TO ANY PROCESSING OF ANY DATA THAT INDENTIFIES YOU AS YOU . This is in FULL ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW

LASTLY so its PERFECTLY CLEAR, Once you hand them consent, you instantly give them GREATER rights to claim an EXEMPTION under the DATA PROTECTION ACT, meaning if they can demonstrate just cause, NO AMOUNT OF WITHDRAWING CONSENT WILL PREVENT THEM FROM USING SAID DATA. A prime example is how they could AGAINST A CLAIMANTS wishes still pass on personal data to PROVIDERS of the work programme.

THIS MEANS IT DOES NOT SERVE TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY AND SO IS INFACT IF IMPLEMENTED, ACTUAL UNDENIABLE FORCED LABOUR.

To add to this and it has already been mentioned, animals are well aware of it and by far and large except for the odd strand or two DO NOT DIGEST IT AS A DAILY MEAL.
To SHAME TEBBIT further, a horse would have to eat several kilograms of Ragwort a day or small amounts for extended periods to cause irreparable liver damage.

  12. New Employment Scam

We already have Workfare, Forced or Compulsory Labour, national minimum wage abuses, zero hours contracts, and dubious self employment.

Now here is another one for those in the construction industry (following hot on the heels of the blacklist scandal).

New Government regulations prevent construction workers from being classed as self-employed, and to put it simply, construction workers are being scammed by being paid less via an “umbrella” company, the latter taking a whack for its services.

Naomi Klein is an accomplished author who has written and sold many books globally. In this video like so many of us have here on this very site, has caught out our very own PRIME MINISTER DELIBERATELY MISLEADING THE PUBLIC.

She even highlights how the Tory government will rush to the aid of elitists at the publics cost while not doing the same when the shoe is on the other foot.
Basically she is citing that it was the fault of our current governments austerity program that lead to the mass awful effect on the publics lives and finances that were effected along with the financial burden on all the public when Cameron stated, “Money is no object, we will spend whatever it takes”.

David Cameron has angrily insisted the UK will not pay £1.7bn being demanded by the European Union.

“If people think I am paying that bill on 1 December, they have another think coming,” the prime minister said in Brussels. “It is not going to happen.”

    • The supervised job search will be held in both jobcentres and in providers premises.

You can’t be forced to use their computers, but a lot will be, because they don’t know about DPA and cookie law.

If you know about DPA, cookies and basically the truth then you’ll know what messages on this website are true.

Read the provider guidance on the link posted below by enigma. You won’t find it say anywhere that the claimant does not have to sign provider paperwork, etc. But nor will you find it says that the claimant MUST sign work plans, etc either. It’s the same with the DPA. Don’t look at what it says. Look at what it doesn’t say. Think about it!

        (PART 1)

For consent in the UK to be legally binding it must be freely given and not obtained through force, threat or deception.

Now under the Electronic Communications (EC Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 (UK Regulations) is the requirement to gain prior consent as regards placing and using cookies. This can be found in section 6 of the act

The first link is the actual act

        http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/1208/made

To save time the next link bottlenecks the section for you and not only demonstrates consent being required prior to but also clarifies that the user (you or another claimant say) DOES NOT have to own the PC and or NETWORK in question. Also take note of subsection 3A under section 6 as this is what I mean when I say claimants are being CONNED into giving consent and is known as IMPLIED CONSENT.

Your dealings with both DWP and provider will require both parties to be subject to various legal requirements. One of them is the COLLECTING and PROCESSING of PERSONAL and or SENSITIVE DATA. This is covered under the Data Protection Act.
Now theirs a lot more an organisation must do inorder to comply but to save time I will bring forward the part your interested in. This part is found in schedules 2 and 3 (2 for personal data,3 for sensitive data) point 1

        (PART2)

To participate with a provider is to engage with their scheme and prior to your first attendance DWP would have sent any relevant information to them which will contain personal and or sensitive data so as to identify you from another claimant along with say some history.

Now before the provider can process this they MUST apply the 8 principles (SCHEDULE 1 of the data protection act). Now under schedule 1, part 1, section 1A and B it states one condition must be met in both schedule 2 and 3 respectively.

As you know, a providers forms always have a data protection policy requiring your CONSENT, meaning if they could exempt themselves from needing such, it would not be on the form. Now like DWP, providers like to trick you to and will often try one of the two practices I will mention.

1: They will fill out the form while asking questions, keeping it away from you (arms length) until a signature is required (even if you dont supply signed consent they may suggest your participation forms IMPLIED CONSENT) or,

2: Will attempt to template the form so as to obscure what your signing for (ie the signature will say something like your signing to say that the information you have supplied is correct).

NO matter what DO NOT FILL OUT, ASSIST TO FILL OUT (ie confirm details) or SIGN any provider documents requiring a signature.

        NOW DONT FORGET

For consent in the UK to be legally binding it must be freely given and not obtained through force, threat or deception.

So in parting this is why your consent or non filling of forms does not constitute as part of participation whether or not DWP attempt to sanction you as if appealed against no matter how long that takes, (usually when you get your local MP involved or if your lucky earlier on, CAB solicitor), it will be OVER TURNED.

You cannot sanction someone for exerting their legal rights.

Hope this helps clarify the subject matter to which you speak of.

Your postings for Newby are very helpful and very infomative.

I had a similar experience when I was on the WP. The provider asked me questions while filling in the paperwork and then asked me to sign. I declined and reminded him that I had not signed the data protection waiver. He was suitably crestfallen, the muppet. I had an easy time from then on. Only had to pitch up for two hours every fortnight for an unsupervised job search, and that was it. Didn’t fill in any of their wretched job logs either and no MWAs. Good times.
