Universal Jobmatch – List of fake ’employers’ (Part 1)

Ipswich Unemployed Action begins with Part 1 of ‘Fake Employers’ on Universal Jobmatch.

What is a “fake employer”? This is any vacancy that will never result in getting a job; the company might exist but may live off revenue from CV Library or Indeed affiliate schemes – or Google Adsense advertisements. In more cases than not, it doesn’t exist, and is to steal personal information or profit from selling your information.

Fake employers types include:-

  1.  Relay Ads – Just posting other job vacancies (whether the original advert job exists or not) usually to promote their own job website, with intention of jobseekers clicking on a Google Adsense advert along side or uploading a CV through CV Library.
  2. Fake Job Adverts – Creating fake adverts to entice people on to their website to get revenue through Google Adsense, CV library or Indeed affiliate scheme. This is identical to the above type except they invent job vacancies rather than copy and paste existing jobs.
  3. Personal Data harvesting – When clicking through you get a holding page with a web form for you to type your details in and upload your CV or alternatively harvest through you directly emailing a CV. No job exists, they just want your personal information.
  4. Fantasy Spare Time game – Some individuals create make-shift agencies advertising fake jobs because they want to run a recruitment agency (primarily they want to set up a business and see money in recruitment due to the large numbers of unemployed people) and are just testing the water. They don’t want to make money out of you or abuse your information, but they have no right in requesting information, pretending to be an agency, when one doesn’t really exist.

We also see adverse options where these so-called employers fail to leave their whois address visible (instead opting out as a non-trading individual for uk domains) or for non-uk domains pay for a service to hide/mask their real address. No genuine employer or agency would do either.

Fake Employers

Just part 1… there are so many its a lot of work going through them all. These were all caught in a 2 week time period (i.e. from 2 weeks ago until today) in Ipswich.

How to spot a scam

  • Highly replicated job adverts – so many of them repetitive of the same content over and over again, likely a scam
  • Self-employed jobs in the millions – a self-employed position isn’t a job
  • A website address (domain name) shouldn’t be tempting – if its about getting rich or easy money its a scam
  • The words “Group” and “Distribution” are hot words used in the employer name of scams
  • When you are clicking through a link to apply for a job – a real employer or agency wont be covered in adverts, wont ask you to upload a CV to third party websites (i.e. CV Library) and wont simply be a web form to input information and upload a CV.
  • Temptations of income are never freely stated in real job adverts – they will tell you the salary but not remind you before applying
  • “Big Advertising” and “Big Hosting” are phrases if you see, should carry the action of running away
  • “No Boss – No Employees – No Stock  No Selling – No Debts – No Problems.” is a sign
  • If you do a whois most scams are hosted on 1&1 (1and1) or Big Advertising

How you can help

You can help us by investigating Universal Jobmatch jobs that look dodgy too…

  • Google the employer name
  • Do a whois lookup on the domain name
  • Do a reverse whois lookup on the registrants name, IP address or nameserver
  • Do a company search for the company (if ends in Ltd, Limited, Plc, LLP) to see if it exists
  • Report back here in the comments!

  1. Add KBA Investments to that list. Regularly listed on UJM with a salary, however it is self employed door to door sales of hideously expensive Kirby vacuum cleaners.

    • I have to admit I didn’t want to split this up into multiple parts… I added “Part 1” at the end (append) because I almost gave up with the number of scams out there.

Took quite a bit of research as was only seeing the job description as hint to whether its a scam or not, and even if it sounds like it certainly is, still had to research to ensure the likelihood of such.

It felt like 90%+ were scams.

I think its important to note that the above list excludes real agencies. So I had to exclude the unlikely jobs posted by “job warehouse” (import feed feature) and agencies which always post the same jobs, as despite I doubt any job exists at the end of it, the agencies are “legit” (I had to add this surrounded in quote marks – it shouldn’t be legal).

One of the worst offenders was someone with many failed businesses who has his “international headquarters” opposite a jobcentre. He dissolved one of his businesses due to a ~£200 CCJ against the company. A £200 CCJ for a person on jobseekers is significant but in the grand scheme of things for a business its a really tiny amount especially when past accounts (might have been another company by the same director) hint at a turnover of £700,000 mark. Tip Top Jobs… best to avoid! .

      Universal Jobmatch

      February 18, 2014 at 10:40 pm

    • Had a quick look on Universal Jobmatch this morning (haven’t used it in almost a year) for jobs in Ipswich. 19/12/2014. Its depressing.

      CV Library
      Monster
      Reed.co.uk
      Company confidential

I was unable to determine a single vacancy through the first 5 pages that appeared legit. Most appeared to be fake jobs utilising popular job titles to attract talent, there was a couple of jobs through an well-trusted agency such as the Assistant Manager job at Giraffe for instance (the restaurant chain Tesco purchased last year) despite not showing on their website, seems a reposting of a generic job advert elsewhere which is probably being done for all Tesco Extra locations… and then there are the few self-employed vacancies, as usual.

Anyone had any better luck, either in the local area or elsewhere? Seems UJM is still as much as a waste ground as before.

  3. Also Hunkin Distribution. Self employed, ‘products sell themselves’.

    Chris

    February 10, 2014 at 11:04 am

    • Thanks for the heads up on KBA Invesments. I will look into it.

Hunkin Distribution is already on the list!

      Universal Jobmatch

      February 10, 2014 at 11:46 am

      • KBA tend to vanish for a while but when they come back they usually advertise for ‘product delivery managers’. Always in batches of 10-15 vacancies and have done since about 1999 when I was unfortunate enough to apply for a vacancy myself.

They are listed as a company although there is no indication of what they do until you are called for an interview.

        Chris

        February 10, 2014 at 1:12 pm

  4. The self-employment scams (not real sole trader positions but franchising or door- to-door selling) are some of the cruellest.

Some people go for them and get really seriously ripped off while working their guts out.

    Andrew Coates

    February 10, 2014 at 11:16 am

    • Indeed, the problem here though specifically is most appear not to be a way of getting around the NMW legislation but solely to steal information.

Many of these scam websites have a full contact name and address in the whois registry – its not known whether the names and addresses are real or just stolen from someones CV.

    • Like the guy on Benefits Street who got a ‘job’ selling door to door for a charity, he walked round all day in a suit he had to pay for, they of course didn’t pay him, his clients were broke or didn’t want to donate. He wasn’t earning anything.

      something survived...

      February 10, 2014 at 3:02 pm

      • Since the recession there had been endless door-2-door “charity” sellers … something what really annoys me. They don’t tell you they work for a marketing company… they say they are from the charity ALWAYS.

Jehova Witnesses never seem to come any more or the meter man.

People should be able to see through those scams quite easily – and its fair play in my eyes if you want to lie to people on their front step to get money out of them, not to get paid at all – except when the jobcentre forces you into such work when you cannot refuse.

        Universal Jobmatch

        February 10, 2014 at 4:36 pm

      • Yeah, passed in body-swerved a ‘chugger’ just the other day and they had a ‘laboratory badge’ round the neck obviously to give the unsuspecting public the misleading impression that they were actual staff from the supposed charity collecting in their free time – could even have been MWA for all I know.

        End Unpaid Work

        February 10, 2014 at 4:56 pm

      • The Charity Muggers in the centre of Ipswich – are they doing a “real” job? I hear very few last more than a couple of weeks.

        Andrew Coates

        February 10, 2014 at 5:06 pm

  5. 5 Self-employment Scams.

“The emphasis is on the big money you can earn. Very often the actual business is just alluded to. Breathing seems to be the only required skill. The focus is on opportunity with a capital O. Request the free information offered and you probably will get a brochure offering to sell you the real scoop.

Especially popular are offers you can pass along over the Internet. From the comfort of your own home, you can reach millions around the world and rake it in.

Another familiar offer is listings (either a booklet you can purchase or on a web site you must pay to enter) of work at home opportunities. These are particularly terrific for anyone interested in earning pennies for tediously stuffing envelopes. You are not told that you have to acquire the names and addresses that will go on the envelopes.

The offer that most amused me is the one that trains you to track down deadbeat parents and collect unpaid child support. Now doesn’t that sound like something anyone could do?

And what’s this repeated promise of a monthly income? Jobs have predictable incomes; businesses fluctuate. ” http://theselfemployed.com/coffee-break/5-work-from-home-scams-you-should-avoid/

  8. How come when you don’t the Data Protection Act waiver at an MWA provider you still get notified of a ‘placement’. What happens if you don’t attend? Has the slave driver got your details or has the MWA provider only told you to attend but if you didn’t attend the MWA placement provider couldn’t communicate your non-attendance back to the JC/MWA provider? And if the DWP/JC/MWA Provider are just ignoring the DPA what is the point of even bothering. I am leaving this you, gaia, since you seem to be the expert on these matters? 🙂

    MWA is fucking shite

    February 10, 2014 at 12:55 pm

    • The DPA waiver doesn’t stop them putting you on an MWA or sending you to 3rd party provider, but it does stop them passing on your details to an employer.

      Obi Wan Kenobi

      February 10, 2014 at 1:07 pm

      • Thanks Obi, for the clarification – it was bugging that was 🙂 thought I must have fucked up somewhere, signed something at the jobcentre or something lol So, not not signing at the work programme protects you from being farmed out as slave labour to an employer, understand it now. Anyway, the MWA provider gives out a bunch of forms with the usual travel expenses with a kind of waiver tucked in amongst it all. But, in the case of not signing it, they did say that the jobcentre would contact the slave driver directly. They also mentioned that other jobseekers had been refusing to sign it too 🙂 so obviously the message is getting through 🙂 fat lot of good it done though. No way out of MWA then? What if you get sent out breaking rocks or something? You not say your back is busted? Put in a claim for ESA?

        MWA is fucking shite

        February 10, 2014 at 1:48 pm

      • Oh, yeah and the “waiver” part is different from the WP one in that it doesn’t mention that you don’t have to sign it and that by not doing so your benefits will not be affected.

        MWA is fucking shite

        February 10, 2014 at 1:52 pm

      • That means the DPA is not going to be any protection against the 26 week/indefinite forced labour ‘help to work’ scheme then? 😦

        MWA is fucking shite

        February 10, 2014 at 1:56 pm

    • Sorry for the delay as ive been hard at work (not paid im afraid) looking into something regarding UJM (no not the scams or reposts). Anyway here goes.

When we first apply for benefit, the individual consents to DWPs data processing policy, privacy notice. Its not possible to not consent even though you can as then DWP can state they cant pay out benefit if they cant communicate with the likes of the tax office for instance to substantiate your legit claim to said benefit.

Now how it is made possible for DWP to exempt themselves from any DPA control you may put in place comes from the Social Security Act 1998 (section 3).

This allows and has allowed them to pass on your personal data to the likes of WP,MWA and any other provider who tenders for their contracted schemes.

Now lets say DWP have just referred you to the work programme but as yet you haven’t had your induction. At this point the provider is a THIRD PARTY however once you sign consent on their paperwork, THEY THEMSELVES BECOME A SECOND PARTY and thus pull the same trick DWP did, hence the REASON NOT TO CONSENT.

Now believe it or not BOTH DWP AND A PROVIDER despite their bold claims technically cant call employers you may have advertised to (this has nothing to do with being placed) but if they can find an exemption they can.
Their usual trick to get around this DPA part 4 (29,1a), hence the need but seldom ever practiced by claimants to enforce DPA on any employer you apply to by way of putting it on all your cover letters,CVs and emails. This effectively makes the employer breach if they relay any of your personal data (the legal definition of personal data is any 2 pieces of information that identifies you as you) back to DWP as do remember that the very fact the employer is aware that you did contact them in effect makes DWPs exemption NOLONGER VALID and as such means DWP made a liable declaration. This doesn’t mean you get DWP but it does mean the employer if they do reply will be getting a call from ICO for a breach and thus ineffect guarantee you wont get hired which ineffect screws ups DWPs aim of getting you back to work. Ive done it in the past and after 2 times DWP has NEVER EVER TRIED IT AGAIN.

As Obi pointed out you cant stop being sent on to a DWP provider BUT it makes it impossible for the employer your going to be placed with through the provider from knowing any personal data prior to any first introduction. Naturally in any work place their are other laws you must consent to and you only have to remember the contracts you have signed when previously employed to know what they are, like HEALTH AND SAFETY for instance.

So naturally their should be paperwork even on a placement which again you can either consent to or not.

Now when we talk consent, IT MUST BE FREELY GIVEN, meaning you cant be persecuted to do so as its an inalienable right (God-given right, basic human right that cannot be violated).

Even though OBI WAN gave a great reply in my opinion I thought it best to expand on it to give you a little more clarity, so hope this helps.

PLEASE NOTE: I am giving legal clarity only and in no way, shape or form am I assisting an individual to evade DWP schemes, nor am I implying any individual is attempting to evade such schemes.

      gaia

      February 10, 2014 at 11:26 pm

      • Thanks for the further clarification and expansion, gaia. That’s an interesting point you made about not signing/consenting into any paperwork at the mwa slave driver ‘workplace’. Or would that count as an ‘activity”: “you must complete all activities the provider tell you to” – what does that even mean – lick the boss’s arse?! Even a normal employer couldn’t order an employees to complete ANY activity – or does health and safety not come into mwa? mwa is not really like a ‘normal’ job with work place rights is it? What about the right to withdraw labour, i.e. go on strike?

Another thing that does not seem to come into mwa is crb checks (something which excludes a lot of ‘ex-cons’ from employment), but it is OK do wipe old folks arses without going through the usual rigmarole so long as you are not getting paid. Obviously another reason for crb checks then.

Another thing the placement provider does it give a form to sign which states things like: “I understand that mwa is a mandatory placement and if I do not attend/to not carry out any activity requested of me I will lose my benefits.” So you are kind of consenting into being sanctioned. Although not signing probably wouldn’t be enough to escape a sanction – you could still argue the point I suppose.

        mwa is shite

        February 11, 2014 at 8:10 am

      • PLEASE NOTE: The above post(s) is merely general discussion on the issues surrounding data protection, workplace rights etc. and in no way, shape or form should it be construed as an attempt by an individual to evade DWP schemes or assist person(s) to evade such schemes.

        mwa is shite

        February 11, 2014 at 8:19 am

      • Im afraid theirs no simple answers to most of what you ask so to answer in entirety would require writing a book (no joke).

First off consent isn’t required on all things, only that which effects your human rights and even then please treat that as an generic but far from total answer dew to the complexity of what you seek.

When I often speak of consent in connection to claimants I refer to the processing of personal and or sensitive data and my mention of health and safety (HASAWA) was merely a memory jog for certain contents within an employers contract and not as a requirement for consent.

HASAWA like criminal law is statutory regulation so as im sure your now imagine its not really a requirement to gain consent persay. The question to be really asked is does a mandated claimant constitute as under legal definition as an employee ?

Now regardless whether or not your an employee the employer is still duty bound to make you aware even if a member of the general public as to their particular requirements under the said act and all those attached to it so I suppose in a fashion but more as proof rather than consent they would be required to present some tangible evidence that they indeed did do so which technically does constitute as processing personal data when we consider the legal definition of personal data and how they prove it was infact you. I wont elaborate on this as I don’t wish to tip a certain someone’s hands so your have to do your homework on this im afraid.

Moving on to CRBs, they MUST BE CARRIED OUT IF A PERSON IS IN REGULAR CONTACT WITH VUNERABLE PEOPLE, theirs no ifs or buts to this period. This said again do your homework on what constitutes as regular when we talk in reference to DWP and their hatched ideas.

Signing contracts or consents does not form a part of the phrase activity for reasons I have already given earlier.

As for work rights, heres the horses mouth

        https://www.gov.uk/volunteering/volunteers-rights

This “I understand that mwa is a mandatory placement and if I do not attend/to not carry out any activity requested of me I will lose my benefits” thing is always pumped out by DWP first however I do agree its quite interesting as to why a provider would need to do it also so good question and maybe that and im not saying this is correct but because what DWP issue only carries legally as far as the provider and that it needs to be re issued to cover a third party SUCH AS A PLACEMENT FOR INSTANCE. Worthy of an FOI me thinks.

Lastly I like the going on strike bit but in earnest currently I don’t have clue as to whether or not a claimant can as ive never been a member of any union so maybe someone else here might be able to take the reins on that one. I certainly if I ever get the time will look that up but don’t hold me to it as I have enough to get on with.

Well, again but this time hope in some very small way I have helped but in being truthful in what you have asked being generic is never a good sign of absolute or definitive so tread carefully as the government learns every time their thwarted.

  10. […] Unemployed Action has a good post here. It’s well worth a look. It lists fake […]

  11. The only way to solve the problem of spamming on the UJM website is for the job centre to apply a listing fee for agencies to post their ads and actually verify that each position advertised actually exists, especially where agencies are concerned as the same ad is cut and pasted multiple times by various agencies who are competing for contracts. If no definite start date is available the jobs should not be allowed to be advertised

Furthermore, self employed, zero hours and temporary work should be omitted from the search results as these cannot be construed as gainful employment if a few months or even weeks later a job seeker is forced to sign on again.

    • jsajobs.org.uk? Its powered by wordpress using “nine to five” wordpress theme from themeforest.net.

I skipped this one for “part 1” as its a job website rather than directly claiming to be an employer.

jsajobs.org.uk is registered to “A Foster” – an address is given both on the website and whois.

All the jobs are pulled from CV Library.

      submitHandler: function() {
      jQuery(‘#submitLoader’).show();
      var name = jQuery(“input[name=apply_name]”).val();
      var email = jQuery(“input[name=apply_email]”).val();
      var notes = jQuery(“textarea[name=apply_comment]”).val();

      jQuery.post(“http://www.jsajobs.org.uk/wp-content/themes/ninetofive_186/scripts/apply.php”, {
      name: name,
      email: email,
      subject: ‘Housekeeping Supervisor / Housekeeper’,
      notes: notes,
      to: ‘jobs@jsajobs.org.uk’,
      message: ‘none’,
      sitename: ‘JSA Jobs’,
      post_id: 40957
      },
      function(data){
      jQuery(‘#submitLoader’).hide();
      jQuery(“.form_apply”).slideUp();
      jQuery(“.apply .subtitle h3”).fadeOut();
      jQuery(“.apply .subtitle h3”).text(“Application Sent!”);
      jQuery(“.apply .subtitle h3”).fadeIn();
      });
      },

Emails content (the name, email and notes) to jobs@jsajobs.org.uk

You will get this email back:

      Hi %name%,

Your application has been received for the job %job title% and forwarded to the employer/recruiter.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in due course to discuss this opportunity further.

Due to the high volume of applications we and the employer/recruiter are unable to respond to all unsuccessful applicants. If you do not hear back from us or them we and they will hold your details on file to ensure you are considered for all future vacancies.

This is an automated email. Please do not respond to this email or contact us in reference to this role as replies are not monitored.

      Thank You,

      JSA Jobs.

Too early to tell but I think its there for the Google Adsense revenue primarily. I cannot see a CV library affiliate link being used. I doubt the employers ever get your CV. Gets deleted no doubt.

  14. Universal Jobmatch: I went today (running) and got there on time but the jobcentre person was a different person and was late. I wanted to hand my book to the floor walker but was forced to hand it to Pigface (the G4S security guard), though Pigface and I are not meant to approach eachother as my complaints against him are still ongoing. Unfortunately the rumour he no longer worked there, was wrong. (My grandfather would have said, ‘Man with face like pig’.) When I got called in the jobcentre signing-on person was late, a different person, and their computer was broken! (So what was the point of me coming?)

After I signed on I looked at the jobs AGAIN, the same ones. Most were the same job printed lots of times. I had to QUEUE UP because there are 12 jobpoint machines, of which 2 are working. They admitted (after denying it for months) that the machines won’t be repaired as they’re going to be putting in a ‘new system’, and it’s ‘all online now’. What about most of us who aren’t online? I told them I can’t get emails from UJM any more and have been saying for ages UJM locked me out and closed my account. As I entered the correct details, it’d be fraud to do what JCP told me today to do, write different personal details. Thickos think I can’t use email/computers. That’s not it and I’ve no time or energy for another email account. All my time is swallowed up trying to de-spam my email from the 300-plus daily spams I’m getting because UJM sold my details around the world before kicking me out. JCP floorwalker (No relation to Luke Skywalker) ordered me to use the JCP internet computer. I said no because you can see my keystrokes etc. Then he told me to show him inside my personal email account. I said no, it’s private – since I already told him I deleted the evidence because my account would close and not function if I didn’t, and since you can’t use ‘absence of any further sent emails’ as proof of non-receipt, they could have no other motive than wanting to see into my personal life. (The farce is with you, Floorwalker…)

Then I got to the front of the queue for the 2 jobpoints still working, and looked at the same jobs all over again, waste of fucking time. While I was doing that, Floorwalker (JCP staff) and Pigface were talking.// Some oldtimers here may remember Pigface. He’s the one that has over the last few years made the following comments many times: sexist/misogynist, racist, looks-ist, classist, sizeist/anti-fat, anti-immigrant, ablist, anti-unemployed (we are all skivers he says and frauds, and he loves us getting kicked off the dole so he can throw us out), and homophobic. G4S employ him and pay him, so JCP pay G4S, but there must be contracts of behaviour somewhere? He hates single mums, but also hates stay-at-home dads who are trying to raise kids whether as a single dad or otherwise. One of the main incidents that sparked my campaign against Pigface, was the time he and another security guard (who, hats off to him, managed somehow to be even uglier and smellier than Pigface)
discussed their hatred of gays because they’d worked at a gay pride festival. They objected to two men holding hands inside the festival…. (Flaunt it do we? Which is why you morons, said these things loudly and within earshot, assuming me to be straight and in perfect agreement. Which is why, I went on a workfare and endured a month of workfare plus homophobia from colleagues ranting about how much they hate ‘queers’, assuming I was like them and agreed with their views. If G4S can’t even bother to send non-homophobes to police a gay event… And workfare didn’t care when I told them what my fellow slaves said all day. ) I know a cagefighter and would feel like setting her on them (Pigface and his mates), but she’s hurt her leg so can’t fight at the moment. So, that’s an update/recap on Pigface.//
Today Pigface and Floorwalker were talking, as I used a jobpoint machine. Pigface made a joke about ‘prostitutes’. It wasn’t even funny. Mums with little kids go in there! It was offensive to women and offensive to sex workers. (I hope no poor working girl gets Pigface as her client, for one thing he doesn’t even wash.) I would say Pigface could have written Universal Jobmatch, but he looks like he needs help writing his own name.
In big letters the huge posters at JCP say you must be respectful to the jobcentre staff or you’ll be sanctioned and possibly arrested. They don’t say that you can’t assault other jobseekers or verbally abuse them, which happened to me many times and nobody did anything. And they don’t say anything about the behaviour of the jobcentre staff or security guards. I would not want to be a colleague of Pigface either, but in the first place I wouldn’t want to work in JCP anyway. ‘You go to jail as a punishment, not to BE punished’. As I tried to run to JCP to sign on, some guys on probation tried to attack me, fortunately I am too fast. JCP don’t understand that something happens each time I leave the house. I’ve been sanctioned in the past for being physically assaulted on the way to sign on, and ending up in hospital… and also for having seizures on the way to signing on so missing it. And when you get there there are no chairs except for people with special appointments; no working phones; no phone desk, almost no functioning jobpoints (thus preventing you doing the jobseeking activity they order you to do or be sanctioned), none of the right staff at the right times, no working staff computer….no drinking water and no private room and no toilets and a broken disability lift. Oh and no jobs. None of the staff seem to know anything, even the rules and limitations of the law or their own job.
And on top of that we, the jobseekers, have to be confronted with Pigface.

International human rights law forbids “torture or other cruel or unusual treatment or punishment.” I know, I know… there’s some kind of cloning machine out there replicating Pigface at jobcentres across the country. From all the applicants, they hire Pigface.

    • Could you retrain from being suidscist or at least give a trigger warning when making bigoted comments regarding pigs? Very offended here.

      Trigger Warning

      August 6, 2014 at 9:42 am

      • His nickname! I’ve called him Pigface 1) So as to avoid giving his real name, which would identify the jobcentre and me 2) Because he looks exactly like a pig. You have to see it to (instantly) know what I mean.
Well, he looks like a pig – except pigs are prettier, cleaner, less smelly, less antisocial etc. Pigs are also very intelligent apparently. Pigface is only intelligent when compared to a baked bean that an armoured truck has driven over. And then not by much.

I’m not the only one. Ask any regular or occasional jobseeker in my town, they know who all parties are discussing. When there’s any doubt about a nasty security guard who makes jobseekers’ lives a misery, to clarify who is being talked about somebody will say….”Do you mean the one that looks exactly like a pig?”
…and the reply will be ‘Yes’.

BTW for some reason they have changed my avatar to this one, though I prefer the old one. I may have been in the digital desert, but…. rumours of my demise are utter bollocks. As I must paraphrase.

  16. Another scam job to look out for is ‘trainee manager’ – this is invariably ‘street hawking’ – they give you a bag of screwdrivers or whatever and leave you to trudge around shops, businesses, private homes for 16 hours a day 7 days a week trying to sell them. You will be classed as an ‘independent trader’

    It's a SCAM!!

    February 10, 2014 at 5:13 pm

    • ‘Trainee manager’ can also mean for example a kitchen slave. When they say ‘trainee manager’ they will tell you that in order to ‘manage’ the business you need to know the business inside out so in order to to that you have to get stuck in washing the pots and pans or whatever. A more people are going to apply for a ‘trainee manager’ position than a kitchen slave. Of course you eventually cotton on lol

      It's a SCAM!!

  23. This is why for months and months on this very site I have handed useful information on how to avoid such things that if any bothered to do wouldn’t be in the boat they are now in if they fell foul to such scams.

Only recently I gave a post about replacing ones CV with a security, privacy, trust notice whether its UJM or any other job advertising site.

Indiscriminate data mining is the number one pass time on the net and earns the catcher a lot of money as despite it being wrong, governments, businesses and any willing to pay for it will take it regardless.

The internet is effectively the wild west, the new frontier and no matter what anyone says, they cannot protect your data, not even YOU can protect your data.

THIS IS PRECISELY WHY YOU NEVER EVER, EVER USE YOUR PERSONAL AND OR SENSTIVE DATA ONLINE UNTILL TRUST IS BUILT AND CONCRETELY ESTABLISHED IN FULL ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW/S, THAT SECURE AVENUES SUCH AS ENCRYPTION ARE FULLY IMPLEMENTED AND EVEN THEN YOUR NOT TOTALLY SAFE.

CONVENTIONAL MAIL IS STILL THE SAFETEST METHOD.

You don’t need to have a fancy office in order to be a business, their is such a thing as a sole trader, you can work from home or even a garage or garden shed and none of this means your necessarily dishonourable.

  29. (THIS POST IS FOR THOSE WHO CONSISTENTLY FAIL TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND EXERCISE THEM AND ITS TITLED YOU BROUGHT IT ON YOURSELF)

I hope claimants know anything that DWP do as regards this discovery be it through the site or in office IS ALL AN EXERCISE TO SAVE FACE KNOWING ALREADY THAT THIS WAS ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN WHILE ENSURING THEY STILL HOLD YOUR CROWN JEWELS RIGHT ?

That using the word TWAT isn’t out of place if any agreed to the new rules they posted deliberately in such a fashion that you couldn’t proceed unless you agreed with it first even though its highly discriminate when you consider how jobs should be advertised fairly and without restriction (DWP get away with this as they do supply redress via a phone number to ring up for job details).

That even though day one while registering that this site and all sites really FORCED you into agreeing to terms that you freely and legally was allowed to consent to OR NOT when talking personal and or sensitive data (THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT THIS ONE).

You do know DWP are laughing at you or should I say your blissful ignorance that they prey on day after day after day.

That all this I found a dodgy ad bullsh*t is completely pointless unless you truly can benefit from it (ie, close your account without fear of mandate and or sanction for instance so where would that put DWPs efforts when considering the new 35 hours demonstrable activity crap ).

Am I being patronising, yes but not out of one upmanship but because I want those individuals who know who they are to take that thumb out of their a*se, their head out of the sand and see the TRUTH FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS, that instead of relying on others in some veil hope their life will get easier without actually making any self effort, that perhaps its time they took the sole lead of themselves and oh I don’t know

FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING LEARNT SOMETHING FOR ONCE IN THEIR LIFE THAT AIDS THEM IN THESE DARK TIMES.

Please note this post as regards those who fail isn’t indicative of all members and or visitors to this site, only those reliant on the total advice of others and no its not as a result of an individuals level of education and is infact the way they have been conditioned by the system to rely on others rather than being self reliant as a whole. Im not saying don’t take advice, just that rather than rely on it in total, that the individual researches it further and more thoroughly so as to be fully versed in its meaning and action.

Now I suspect although now I have said it maybe not (see that trolls, see how I covered by bases, sweet yeh) that my negative troll fan base will be in glee at this post while hoping I either stop posting or you all or in part stone and ignore me from this point onwards despite me also like them having an option to return under yet another synonym (yep im still ribbing you trolls). • ffs gaia, you shouldn’t be too hard on jobseekers who fail to ‘stand up to the jobcentre’! We all know that the evil entity known as the dwp/jobcentre is criminal, corrupt and pure fucking evil. Most jobseekers simply cannot afford to stand up to the c!”£$. It is ok to take them on if you have other ‘back-up’, are about to retire or only signing on for ni contributions etc. At the end of the day we all need a roof over our head/food in our bellu

      Not A Troll

      February 11, 2014 at 10:35 am

      • Currently unless your on UC or government have reconfigured the jobseekers allowance act and I have yet to discover it, an individual CANNOT have their housing benefit sanctioned so the roof over the head isn’t really relative to most current claimants. As for filling ones belly, their is hardship and food banks so again even not the amount one would like to get is more than enough to enable the body to function.

What you must remember that even government cant deny, is its actually counter productive as a whole to remove someone’s home and food when you consider a genuine claim by them to help people back to work. Governments have responsibilities to their citizens yet are using these rule changes through misleading the working public so as to gain support who will also be greatly effected by UC when it comes to absolve themselves from blame and responsibility.

The answer you gave is precisely what government want you to say and feel otherwise how else can they move forward.

As time moves on government (no matter who’s in power) will become meaner and meaner so in all likely hood you may still find yourself jobless and sanctioned anyway so why not use your head now rather than when its all to late. The very fact they use sanctioning and its effective (your response is proof of this) is the very reason why its still in place and being lengthened yearly.

Now this next bit is an educated guess so I cant say its literal just yet but the change in weather that we all now experience may well become a permanent fixture so rather than track the years it occurs we may find ourselves measuring its yearly longevity. If this is correct it implies those on the coast will move inland meaning even more less housing, even more people going for the same job and so forth and as a result we make people even more compliant to a dictatorship rather than a democracy when not actively participating in governance and economics .

Add to this and I hope it doesn’t become the actual case, despite claims of an improving economy valid finance only really comes from outside the UK (export) and according to Baltic exchange dry index its slipped quite a lot in January 2014 alone by 46% or their abouts, we will see things worsen even faster.

We, like it or not as a country cant afford to keep borrowing at the rate we do so services will diminish till only essentials are left. The tories and I don’t care if people like them or not are trading off a future that has yet to transpire and I sincerely hope they are correct in their plan as history all to well reminds us of those that be fell the same problem and if you don’t know its not something you would even wish on your worst enemy, believe me when I say it will make your plight now seem like a drop in the ocean when compared.

We (by this i mean oneself) have 2 paths, a change of governance (no not party) or in true capitalist fashion we desert the UK sinking ship and go every man for themselves, the latter I feel is ill advised.

If their was ever an incentive to get a job by hook nor crook, especially a job people will always need the product or service of then this is it.

I don’t joke in what I say, im deadly serious so if you want to know why I despair and what my wishes are then I hope and prey we all get a meaningful job damn soon but while doing so hate to see people trapped in a system that through lies and manipulation has them fearful at every turn.

You only get one life, theirs no retakes, so live it and live it wisely.

  32. Despite protestations from Gaia, the reality is that if you are sanctioned (JSA and ESA) and you have a live claim for Local Housing Allowance (still includes old style Housing Benefit) and/or a live claim for CTA (previously Council Tax Benefit) those benefits will be stopped.

It happens because the minute your sanction is approved by a DM, the LA is automatically informed of a Change of Circumstance. The LA acting within the law as it stands, will stop the payment, their reasoning is that it avoids overpayment.

It falls to the claimant to contact the local LA and request to make a claim for LHA and CTA under a No Income Declaration. JC+ and the DWP rarely give out this advice, nor do they ever inform the claimant that their LHA and CTA will be stopped.

It’s all very well lambasting claimants for not standing up to the bullies of JC+ and telling them that they brought their predicament on themselves, but it doesn’t help those who simply do not have the wherewithal to do fight back. There are many groups who fall into this category, they are not at fault for being unable to stand up to this brutal, Kafkaesque regime. Even fully qualified Welfare Benefits Advisors who have training in these laws are being left frustrated by the way in which JC+ and DWP play games with the laws they are supposed to follow.

When it comes to being face to face with a JC+ Adviser who has it in for you, or who has a brand new off-flow target to reach, the Advisor will do anything, including spouting made up rubbish and the claimant will end up sanctioned anyway. People aren’t helped by being given garbled, cod versions of complex laws to use to argue their case.

Is telling people who have been sanctioned they brought it upon themselves a new version of divide and rule?

      Despite protestations from Gaia, …….

I agree with all of that Lucy, we can’t all be expert in every detail, it’s all too complicated, although I can see where Gaia’s coming from.

Simplest advice, always ask for it in writing or a printout. You need it for your records, to show to your housing, to show to your social worker, to show to your cab advisor etc. etc..
Simply asking for it in writing is normally enough, until next time – were you ask for it in writing again!

      Another Fine Mess

      February 11, 2014 at 5:22 pm

    • So what are saying exactly Lucy, that claimants should all admit defeat and just lie down and take it day after day after day, that I shouldn’t bother them and just enjoy all to myself never having ever being sanctioned, never having ever being successfully jobseeker directed, having no UJM account todate, screw you fellow claimants life for me is a beach ?

Reading your latest post its as though you preach utopia actually existed once upon a time yet the stark reality you are in denial about IS THIS IS HOW THE WORLD HAS ALWAYS WORKED, THAT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING,YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN EFFORT WITHOUT EXPECTING OTHERS TO AID YOU COMPLETELY, YOU HAVE TO FROM TIME TO TIME EXPECT TO MAKE SACRIFICES.

No great nation was forged without dissidence lucy, all over history many have had to make great sacrifices to bring about change for the greater good, its just a shame that over time they become the very thing they fought against.

ITS NOT REASON THAT STANDS BETWEEN THE KNOWING AND UNKNOWING, ITS A BOOK, A PIECE OF PAPER AND SELF DETERMINATION.

        February 12, 2014 at 1:59 pm

    • Correct Lucy, your Housing Benefit DOES stop and you have to re-claim. It also technically puts you in over-payment until the Council make a back-dated award. And you have to have your wits about you to make sure that you inform the Council on time and re-claim on time. And not everyone has access to information especially the internet. I have overheard people on the jobcentre ‘phones in tears trying to get through to a ‘decision maker’ because their rent payments had been cut due to a sanction. You could also hear the sniggering on the other end of the line. I suppose gaia would argue that these unfortunate jobseekers brought it upon themselves? We all find it hard to fathom that someone else is more/less intelligent/articulate/confident than we ourselves are. The are a lot of people less intelligent/articulate/confident than you are gaia, particularity when it comes to an abomination that is the DWP/JCP. And there are a lot of people MORE intelligent/articulate/confident than you are, gaia, and a lot of them probably work for the JCP/DWP formulating policy. And you have to be pretty smart to out-manoeuvre the DWP/JCP around their rigged chessboard – they always hold the temporal, positional and material advantage over the jobseeker.

And even with the likes of this forum it is a very select group of jobseekers posting. How many jobseekers do you think visit this site compared to how many post.

        February 11, 2014 at 7:21 pm

      • Sorry checkmate but I have yet to see an advisor that could even lie properly let alone being intelligent. articulate and confident because if they were they wouldn’t even try lying to someone with the same skillsets but none the less they do and why because their fearful of their own job security. We had a chat a bit back on this when I declared that back in the day sometime after my first ever job after leaving school that I worked for the tax office when I stated I was told to not offer any advice that the client didn’t already know and that was in the 80s. Even another poster to this site said the same self thing.
The housing procedure you speak of isn’t new either when a claimants benefit is stopped so I fail to see yours or should I say as she was first lucys earlier point.

So acknowledging the point lucy and yourself made about claimants being less this and that, how exactly did this lack of, benefit them besides informing them that their tear ducts work and oh what shock, all civil servants are the same. Does the claimant proceed to act in the same manner the next time as lets face it, theirs always a next time or do they learn from it ?

To make the claimant sweat under the veil of bureaucracy has been about for decades and landlords who except benefit claimants are well aware of this so are often use to waiting ridiculous timeframes inorder to get a payment but in earnest it doesn’t help when a person working or not ducks and weaves the problem rather than keep the landlord informed much the same way with peoples other arrears.

Im sorry but this close the curtain, pretend no ones home approach doesn’t work, never did, never will be it the landlord, utility company or bank as they do what they do for money, not because they feel sorry for less off people.

The world turns on money, always has, always will, even charities and advice centres need it so the question is how far is someone willing to go to procure it, how much of their dignity and moral fibre are they willing to shed.

And while on that last point, is it any wonder when DWP know only to well what claimants will submit to that they would do next nothing to keep vacancies such as laptop dancer, escort and the likes from their very jobsite.

I ages and ages ago (to far to remember as ive been on the net since the days of 56k phone lines and the zx Sinclair) on a website site I owned at the time wrote an article on our old mental institutions and how many a patient locked away for horrid amounts of years should have never been their like autism sufferers for instance. No offence but you and lucy talk like all this offensive against the poor and the weak is something new when infact as I said earlier, its been about for decades upon decades.

Take this obesity stuff, we all face a mirror at least once a day, so how on gods green earth can they say they didn’t notice things were going wrong way before they get to weights such as 26 stone for instance and when I say they I mean themselves and the authorities, the food companies, yet hear we are now all globally saddled with the harsh reality that wouldn’t have been their if we all didn’t just stick our heads in the sand, pretending we didn’t see it, that if I keep my head down for long enough that it will all go away.

Whether we care to admit it or not, we all like to try and deny the truth, the reality while demonstrating absolutely no determination until its to late to do so.

        gaia

        February 12, 2014 at 7:30 am

      • Obesity is big money, gaia… its a serious of business models that the ‘victims’ move through, after all to quote a great wit 🙂 : “the world turns on money” … the supermarkets sell people the crap that make them obese in the first place, the pharmaceutical industry sells the drugs to treat their illness, the coffin manufacturers sell the wooden boxes. Agree, I have never understood how people suddenly balloon to like 20-odd stone. Do they just keep buying bigger and bigger sizes of clothes muttering: “They must be making the sizes smaller.” Personally I detest the evil old Nazi c!”£ buy maybe Norman Tebbit did have a point, after all nobody can talk shite 100% of the time when he remarked that people who are obese only have themselves to blame: ““People ought to know that if they stuff themselves silly with high-calorie, rubbish foods they will get fat.”

      • Checkmate that is exactly my point.

I would guess that Andrew Coates sees the stats for visits to this excellent blog and that the numbers visiting out number those commenting by a large amount. People may not comment for as many reasons as there are people.

There are so many people who, for whatever reason simply do not have the personal means to take on this JCP+/DWP nightmare. They do not stand a chance, and for Gaia to pronounce that these people deserve everything they get, is morally reprehensible and demonstrates a profound lack of knowledge about the reality for so many individuals

As for some people proclaiming that they are more educated and intelligent than others, we can always remember that empty vessels always make the most noise.

        February 12, 2014 at 1:55 pm

      • It is especially apparent when you ‘mix’ with fellow jobseekers on mandatory ‘courses’ – a lot of jobseekers have borderline learning difficulties, a lot of them can barely read and write, a lot can’t even use a computer. It is then that you realise how easy it must be for the job centre to bully, harass, and steamroller them into sanctions.

Also, remember when you first face a jc Nazi ‘adviser’ across the desk just like an opponent in the boxing ring you are an ‘unknown quantity’ so they have to think on the hoof and adapt their tactics accordingly. But just imagine if you had learning difficulties or something – they would make mincemeat of you.

And it is difficult to fight off the jobcentre especially with sanction. You could be a legal eagle and you be struggling. If you look on rightsnet style forums you will see properly trained and qualified benefits specialist left scratching their heads at the DWP/JC tactics.

        ES40

        February 12, 2014 at 2:15 pm

      • ES40, thank you for that, you hit the nail on the head. The list of people who are unable to beat this system, as you well know extends way beyond Learning Difficulties.

I am a regular reader of rightsnet. The posters there, as you say are all trained and qualified to understand these laws/rules/guidelines and even then, the JC+ and DWP can simply ignore the rules and run rings around them.

Those people on ESA WRAG, unfortunate enough to have been mandated to the WP (with no end date) who have been officially told (by the DM/DWP) that they are unfit for work are also being abusively targeted by JCP staff and WP providers.

Many of these people are in a very fragile physical and/or mental state. Yet, still they are being sanctioned, forced into destitution and in some cases committing suicide, because it is beyond them to take on the system whereby the only result is the claimant losing, in some cases, everything, including their life.

There is a huge polarity in the groups of individuals on benefits. From those with no functional literacy all the way to those with post graduate degrees and endless years of experience in demanding employment roles. They are all seen as fair game by this system. Education doesn’t always give a person the confidence to take on such a system either.

There are people on JSA who are being psychologically battered by this system who will no doubt end up on ESA being battered even more vigorously.

I doubt that many who don’t have a long term illness or disability has ever heard of “Spoon Theory”. I’d suggest that it’s worth a google, and it may explain to those who believe that sanctioned claimants deserve all they get, exactly why it isn’t always possible to fight, or even function.

        Lucy

        February 12, 2014 at 2:37 pm

      • Exactly Lucy, gaia is trying to make out that all you have to do is point the jobcentre to some Freedom of Information request. But is DOES NOT WORK – it has been tried and tested. All they do is wave their hand and put their hands in their ears, you wont even read your FOI, it is just summarily pooh-poohed and dismissed out of hand.

Of course gaia, would probably counter with: “The DWP have to follow the Law at the Third Tier Tribunal”. So are we supposed to all sit with no income/on hardship (it will keep your body barely ticking over) until a Hearing calls at a Tribunal or a Judicial Review is heard in the High Court?

      • Another thing about ‘taking on’ the DWP. The jobseeker/claimant (unless they have (professional) help/support – maybe that is why the ‘decision letters say “you or someone who had the authority to act for you”) are generally acting alone against a massive Kafkaesque bureaucracy who all act together as one and pull rank. It is akin to ‘taking on’ the Police or trying to prove negligence against the NHS.

      • Being stuck permanently in the clutches of the like of Working Links, A4E, Reed in Partnership, Ingeus, Seetec, G4S or any other of these evil entities is a horrific thought. It doesn’t bear thinking about. These people are trained to put negative thoughts and implant suicidal thoughts in their victims heads. There must be huge swathes of people committing suicide because of this psychological abuse, but we are unlikely to ever find our the true extent of this. You need to be pretty strong to survive these DWP sanctioned of ‘programmes’ of abuse and even the strongest will be worn down over time. God help the weakest.

        Labour Exchange

        February 12, 2014 at 6:13 pm

      • Labour Exchange, I’m sorry but it’s true. If you are in receipt of ESA WRAG with a prognosis of less than 12 months (this prognosis is decided by ATOS, not your own doctors) then you can be mandated to the WP with no end date.

The WP are generally ignoring the WP guidelines that state that they must take account of your condition before setting activities for you and those activities must be appropriate for you. The WP are treating everyone on ESA WRAG as if they were on JSA and fit for work.

ON ESA, both the WRAG and the Support Group are conditional and individuals can be sanctioned, losing all their benefits for the duration. If you are in the Support Group you cannot be mandated to attend the WP, but you can “volunteer” for it, which might make your eligibility for the Support Group look suspect in the eyes of the DWP.

If you return to work and sign off of all benefits (even if you don’t tell the WP who you are working for) then become too ill to work again, and you apply and get ESA WRAG, you will be immediately returned to the WP for as long as you are still unfit for work.

I suspect that after coming up with this ridiculous idea and implementing it, George Osbourne had to send a lacky out for a new bumper box of tissues.

It is beyond depressing and as you say, it’s driving people over the edge. Me included.

Really, this may I say poor attempt at deliberately being selective, trying to put words in peoples mouths In a veil hope others with common sense would believe it was said when as can be clearly seen on my posts its not, nor the site I linked to just makes you more like DWP than I could EVER be.

Seriously, if you and others spent as much time fighting what you moan about yet by far and large remain inactive to as you do trying to eviscerate my credentials, you might actually affect change in a positive way.

Truth is often a bitter pill to swallow but is a far better trait to except than denial and inaction.

        gaia

        February 13, 2014 at 11:47 am

      • I have a grave doubt that Gaia has ever actually had to sign on or claim benefits of any kind.

Despite Gaia’s assertion that we are all just going belly up in some kind of festival of learned helplessness, the truth is that Gaia knows absolutely nothing about me or probably any of the others who comment here.

Gaia appears to have little idea of what many of us are doing to try and right the wrongs that are happening to so many, so is left with one last, broken, duel purpose tool in the box – mockery and abuse.

Gaia, if what you are hoping to achieve is a call to arms. Then make it that and only that. Why resort to making yourself look as bad as the government?

People are more likely to heed a call to arms and take action if they don’t read words that imply they are worthless.

Your comment blaming those who are sanctioned is trying to belittle individuals who will not have your experiences of life. Their experience is as valid as yours. Yet from what you type you appear to believe that not to be true. Please remember that you have only adopted as an online screen name, the name of a mythical earth god. You are not a god.

Trying to create some kind of divide and rule based sub culture, where all those who weren’t able to take on the DWP and fell badly or fatally by the wayside are considered ideal recipients of disdain and mockery, massively weakens your argument.

Gaia, on this blog, you frequently remind us of your education, your epic career and knowledge of all things IT, you use this whenever you are challenged, and you use it aggressively.

In my experience, true experts, those with large amounts of experience and many years doing a job they love, tend to be quietly confident in their knowledge. They understand the fragility of their tenure as experts and the danger of ego.

Real experts don’t need to shout about it or reply to dissent to their opinions with an attack based on nothing more than “I do IT, I know it all, I am a l33t h@X0R and you are nothing and deserve all the bad stuff that happens to you”

Now lets take the remaning quote/s shall we lucy

“I have a grave doubt that Gaia has ever actually had to sign on or claim benefits of any kind”.

Ive through most of my life either tendered for contracts or most been self employed so have signed off and on quite a bit actually be they up until 2006 not to longer periods.

Ive never in an employed capacity ever worked in I.T in a manner you prescribed. I grew up with computers and the internet and my knowledge base grew alongside it so im not one of those monkeys who went to college and can only imagine what it was like and how we got to were we are today which has the problem of them being able to fix things in a ways but never truly understand and appreciate why (that’s not their fault for the record).

I was born and raised in one of the roughest places in england, I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth, never had private education, I got caned a lot and or saw my fathers belt. I left school with average marks bar science and maths and crafts. Got in trouble with the law as young as 11 although I was almost 12. Have a criminal record and eventually endured a few trips to jail although one was only being in remand for a few to many months before the case was dropped.

Even though I have multiple skills in engineering my main sector is in energy (in the very board multiple sense)distribution and consumption (ie, equipment ).

My mantra handed down to me by my father and I practice it daily and have done my entire life is

        “Give back what you’ve got”

I stand by this as its right that we should all share our talents no matter our standing instead of allowing greed and selfishness to blind us from our sense of duty towards our fellow community (not just locally) .

I grant you I lack people skills in certain areas and you are far from the first to mention it to but lets not let it cloud us from the common theme we all share which is to fight corruption, class and the oppression against the right to be treated equally.

      • Gaia, your response sadly reeks of ever more disdain for those who are not like you in every respect.

People will get by in any way that they can. You may not approve of those ways, but when people are right at the bottom of the pile, dealing with basic survival, they aren’t going to be seeking applause or approval from you.

Some people are so utterly battered by the unjust actions of the DWP, their LA, the WP, their own health conditions both physical and mental, that all they can do is recount their story. That is all they have left. You see that as “whining”

Sometimes all that is left for those people to do is end their own lives. Do you call that “whining” as well?

I use the term “divide and rule” because that is what your endless rhetoric spells out so clearly.

If you have been through all you say you have, then I must question why and how you understand so very little of why people fall by the wayside? If you have come all that way and STILL think it acceptable to piss on those who have fallen or are still falling, you need a serious bout of self examination.

Every single person claiming benefits has a story.

Their story counts just as much as yours.

Their responses to the injustices they are enduring are valid and should be respected.

These people are not lesser than you because they are different

We are all equally precious Gaia.

        Get used to it.

        February 14, 2014 at 4:10 pm

      • Do you have any idea how many personal and or gripe stories are put online every second of every day lucy, be they about welfare or anything else ?

Do you know how many make a valid point yet never get an airing ?

They called it cyberspace for a reason yet this seems to be lost on you I feel.

You speak of divide and conquer yet it seems you are the one practicing it by saying its perfectly ok to sit on the touchline while others do the heavy lifting and then wonder why politicians say what they say.

Young, old, sick, healthy, working, not working, DWP are coming for everyone drawing a benefit so no lines can be drawn, we are either ALL in it together or not and it doesn’t come any simpler than that whether you have food in your mouth or not.

Change comes about by affirmative action, not inaction.

        Scam Alert

        February 11, 2014 at 5:04 pm

      • Spot on! An obvious scam. Scams are more than theft or defrauding people of money by deception. Most scams have several clues within it (the name, spelling mistakes, poor grammar, etc) so when people overlook the clues they feel more of a fool afterwards.

Major points as to why its as scam:-
        * “Dear Candidate” (i.e. why no name?)
        * £10/hr is high for warehouse work
        * 45-60 hours is a lot
        * “overtime available” … on 60 hours per week?!
        * ukash is like Scam Alert states, like Western Union – AVOID!
        * “Yellow Storage Ltd” supposed to be Yellow Self-Storage which isn’t a warehouse job
        * The company “Recall Warehouse Solutions Limited” doesn’t exist – “recall” is a word I would be worried about anyhow
        * The descriptions do not match, one is 7am-7pm the other is 8am-8pm
        * illegalities – says “cash in hand” you can pay someone by cash if it goes through the books, but the terminology means paying someone without telling HMRC and without paying taxes – scammers like hooking you on guilt to prevent you going to the police

Remember, employment is about someone giving you money for working for them… you will NEVER need to pay any money upfront, no admin fees, no CRB checks, no money for H&S equipment.

Don’t take any preliminary “job” offer (by email, phone, letter) seriously – no one will give you a job before they give you an interview face-2-face (whether its a formal job interview or casual relaxed chat).

I have noticed a few vacancies where the apply address is hosted by companies such as Google through mainstream available services uploaded and powered by automated means.

“We Love Our Locals” is one to avoid. In particular its a spamming of self-employed telesales (and various other types) vacancies working from home on quite good income (apparently) but also mentions leaflet drops within the job description… They apparently have a domain name and the address has been opted out

  47. Yesterday (05/03/13) my DWP advisor gave me a job on UJM to apply for (mandatory of course, as I am a WP returner and require my derriere to be metaphorically kicked!).

Looking at the job advert (UJM job id: 6462747) I duly applied through the “apply” button which transferred me to a site purporting to be HR Solutions.

The website struck me as strange of the ilk of QUE Conultants et al, as mentioned above.

The webpage had no contact details, telephone contact, company address etc.and a suspect URL address of the web portal as hrsolutions.tv.

The website definitely does have the feel of the “fake employer” type and I shall be interested to hear what my DWP advisor says to me when I raise these doubts on my next visit to him.

  55. “Company Confidential” is a cunning one. When I first saw that on UJM (and there are/were(haven’t looked for ages 🙂 ) literally zillions of these ‘vacancies’ on UJM I thought it meant that the company was confidential i.e. UJM wasn’t disclosing it but it was a real company 🙂

    Zoe

    April 23, 2014 at 7:00 am

    • I think I might have even applied for a few of these ‘vacancies’.

      Zoe

      April 23, 2014 at 7:02 am

    • Zoe, in bare basics… when you are hiring new staff it really is something you want to SHOUT about! You want the best candidates (quantity isn’t quality, but more choice…) and you want to use your credentials of being a legit business to anchor people to your business whether you are a market leader, a well established business or a start up.

Every listing for Company Confidential is of a major concern. They want your personal details… but they wont even let you know who your future employer might be? This could be for a whole handful of reasons… a vacancy that doesn’t exist, a company with CCJs, a company that has been taken to a tribunal and lost, a company prosecuted for health and safety violations (perhaps an employee died), or a company that has a negative history that is easily obtainable through a Google search etc

There is no reason why you would keep it quiet… if you wanted it confidential, you wouldn’t disclose the job.. it would be one of those “internal jobs” that aren’t advertised (other than on a company noticeboard or intranet) or offered to an existing employee as a promotion (or even to a family member).

It is appalling that Jobcentre Plus forces jobseekers into applying for them.

      • Secret Recruit…They used to advertise on the Universal Jobmatch site. They vanished from there and are now advertising under company confidential. There’s a rumour at the Wpp I go to that they may now have something to do with Strike Jobs. This has NOT been proved though

  62. These days an agency will advertise a job, so you go and sign up with that agency. They will tell you first you have to do a 2 day induction course and learn how the work system is and you will get paid for the 2 days. But after the 2 days are finished you then get told that the agency are waiting for START UP DATES which never seem to start up? I did this through BALTIC RECRUITMENT 2 weeks ago, its now 31/05/2014 and I still do not have a job? The only person who has a job is the induction trainer for the agency and probably will get a lot more than you for the 2 days telling you what you have to do when or if you get the job and by then you have forgotten what she told you in the beginning? Its just money from the government that the agency thrives on, they are not interested in you, just as long as you turn up for the induction so that they get paid.

  64. iii I have done some research on the above list of people and surprise surprise many of them are using false names to hide the fact they have been involved in crimianal activity in one form or another ; Mainly Fraud , false accounting and the like, great role models for our disaffected youth i am sure.
I guess i should have anticipated this having witnessed all the Malpractise and underhand activity going on here in Berkshire and by the way if any of you do come across Fraud within the so called providers i would strongly advise you to keep hold of any evidence you accumulate and hand it over to a sympathetic Journalist at a later date or better still inform your local Crown Court and the Judge will have a legal obligation under common law to prosecute those concerned, do not , i repeat do not forward any evidence onto Action Fraud as all they will do is record the matter and not treat it as a crime because it involves a third party and not you that has suffered a material loss.

  65. I wish that I’d found out about this sooner as even though I was suspicious about some of the jobs I found advertised on UJM, I did fall for some of them which probably why I’m now getting calls from the same number in the Philippines for the past week.

These scams aren’t limited to UJM as I’ve seen search job vacancies advertise on reed and recruit8.com are advertising over on reed as well (I haven’t seen them on UJM yet unless they’re being concealed under the reed.co.uk name so it might be best to look at the recruit8.com jobs on reed and see if they match up to anything on UJM).

    David Johnson

    June 2, 2014 at 10:25 pm

  66. I can confirm that recruit8.com does have adverts on UJM, but they are concealed as reed.co.uk and I would class them as highly suspicious as the domain was registered by a proxy service (meaning that the details of the person who registered the domain are private) and it’s only been in existence for under two months.

    David Johnson

    June 4, 2014 at 9:51 pm

    • How daft is it to have 2 ‘recruitment firms’ named on the same job advert. It’s even possible that when you click on UJs “apply” you’re being directed through yet an other unknown one. It’s just a daisy chain that eventually leads nowhere – it’s crackers!

    • “Processing Fee
With effect from 1st August 2012, a processing fee is now applicable for all our applicants payments made via credit, western union money transfer. Please see below for more details on the fee.

      What is processing fee?
A processing fee is charged when an applicant has been interviewed and a processing fee payment is made through credit card or western union money transfer. The fee is charged per applicant per traveling processing and only applies once the applicant has been interviewed. Any changes or addition to existing fee is excluded from the processing fee. The fee is refundable.

      Why is the fee introduced?
To ensure that our applicants are guaranteed and assured of their job position applied. And also to enable us to have the confidence in procurement of the applicants necessary documents, implementation and maintain of our employee stardard, especially improving security/secured features of the applicant. The processing fee is to subsidize the costs of necessary documents.

Are there other payment options which
do not attract a processing fee?
Yes, the processing fee does not apply to
      any other payments.”

      – and this sounds well dodgy!! NEVER send money in respect of a job application!! And this also sounds like pidgeon english. The only thing that looks odd is that their is an entry on linkedin for an ‘Adam Bosworth’ purporting to be in the recruitment industry for 22 years. But anyone can paste anything on linkedin. The website could be a bogus cut and phrase or anything.

It is just when you read things like: “To ensure that our applicants are guaranteed and assured of their job position applied. And also to enable us to have the confidence in procurement of the applicants necessary documents, implementation and maintain of our employee stardard,” that you should be running for the hills. Personally I wouldn’t touch this with a barge-pole. And I certainly wouldn’t be sending of a a ‘processing fee’ by ‘western union’ (another huge reg flag) or whatever means.

Some of the rights applying to candidates contained within the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003 are:

It is unlawful for any agency to charge candidates a fee for providing work-finding services, but it is possible for a recruiter to charge a fee if the candidate is a self-employed work-seeker providing services through a limited company.
An agency must confirm on what basis they are to offer work finding services and the terms, which apply between themselves and the candidate.”

      • Kleeneze was the first thing that entered my head. Done that sh!t 20yrs ago when I was rather naive and didn’t have a computer or mobile phone to research the company. Pay for the catalogues, bags, invoices, etc. Spend hours shoving them through doors, praying for some custom. Go to collect them, 25 out of fifty have thrown them out, 15 are never home, (so you lose the catalogue, bag and invoice you had to pay for), six people tell you where to shove your catalogue, two tell you the dog or baby chewed it up and 2 actually order….. a pan scrubber and a nose hair trimmer. So you rub your hands in anticipation of massive amounts of spondoolies at the end of the month and get a lovely big cheque for £2.70, minus THEIR commission. Postcard on it’s way from Ourgate, which is a lovely place at the end of our garden 🙂

UK Recruitment Services is still up, is advertising on reed and has links to recruit8 (the link to the recruiters website for one of the jobs points to the recruit8.com domain but redirects to the UK recruitment services website) so it’s highly likely that recruit8 and UK Recruitment Services (now known as UK local recruitment on reed) are one and the same.

They might be using that to get around the totaljobs block, although I haven’t looked there yet and I haven’t gone deep enough into the reed job list to find if there’s any recruit8 jobs floating around there.

  92. Spot on John T, in fact its much worse than you realise ; No body wants to take responsibility for anything at Job Centre Plus ; here in Bracknell under the Government’s Work Programme/ Community Placements, staff have endangered the lives of scores of people by sending them to a company which describes itself as a social enterprise on its website specialising in Paint recycling .
This company has no fire certification and is breaking every Health and Safety regulation in existence , further more the provider contracted to Bracknell Job Centre is also breaking Mental Health Law by referring youngsters with severe learning difficulties and Downs Syndrome to this company without obtaining informed consent, which is clearly breaking the Mental Capacity Act, well rest assured Job Centre Plus might be happy to turn a blind eye to this state of affairs but I am not , so this morning my former work associate and myself took legal advice at a well known Reading Solicitors and he has agreed to finance Legal action against the provider involved and possibly individual staff members of Job Centre Plus, these people need reminding that ignorance of Legislation is no excuse in a Court of Law .

    • Under MWA/CWP there is a complete disregard for health and safety. I have been badly injured as well as witnessing many injuries and near fatalities on these schemes. You have to keep your wits about you if you want to survive these death-trap schemes, and even then you are sure to suffer long-term health consequences as the result of toxic fumes/chemicals or whatever you have been breathing in, problems with muscles/tendons etc… the list goes on. It is utterly shocking the abuse and mistreatment of vulnerable human beings that is dished out under the auspices of the DWP/Jobcentre and their third-party collaborators in the private sector in a so-called first-world country in the 21st century.

  96. Frequently browse listings on Universal Jobmatch. Quite a few come up for UK RECRUITMENT.(web address: UK-RECRUITMENT.NET)

The jobs on that site used to be harvested from TotalJobs and other job sites, but now no source is displayed. Instead you have to log in to apply.

I have my log in details from a long time ago, but when I try to log in, I get an SSL error. The website is unfunctional as far as I can see, and has been for a long time. There is a contact form on the website. I posted a query concerning that issue. No reply from the website administrators.

So basically the website is a scam, in my opinion at least, operating for whatever reason, and I don’t particularly care what reason. Is that my paranoia, do you think?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it someone “connected” with DWP themselves responsible for posting these vacancies via UK-RECRUITMENT just to bump up the number of vacancies listed. There’s clearly no other reason that I can see for the website operating at all.

And since the ads keep appearing from this website in question, clearly no-one from DWP has taken any action to block their existence. Perhaps nobody has bothered to inform DWP, out of the 1 million or so which perhaps use Universal Jobmatch from time to time. I wonder what the probability of that is.

So if I see a UK-RECRUITMENT.NET advertisement, I totally ignore it. Pointless even listing it in my opinion.

  99. In response to Sharon Kane’s post last night, the answer to your question ; Do the police not pursue these people ? is No they do not and I have an Email from Reading police telling me in future to Report all fraud to the Department of Work and Pensions via their website but since there is no facility to do this on their website they are effectively washing there hands of the matter, I shall be contacting the chief constable for the Thames Valley force next week to ask him if its their policy now to concentrate on low level fraud and ignore the really big stuff going on.
I am afraid its now a free for all out there now, I can only advise you to be extra careful when dealing with any potential Employment agency because this Government has invited criminality into our society on an epic scale by some of the most unpleasant people humanity has produced, the fact that this effects the poorest and disposed the most ,appears to concern them not a jot. 100. I have had quite a few of these over the past year, went to a self employed interview and was told I could make £50k a year selling Wills to old people, their plan was to advertise these for £30 a pop but once you were in the door you bring out a large book of insurance products that cost a small fortune, the idea being that you offer 10 different things and bore them or scare them half to death, funny thing about the interview was that he told me I would need to pass an FSA test but that he would sit with and help me cheat the test, and also their offices had no name or logo anywhere near the premises, their offices were so run down and old but everyone makes £50k a year, safe to assume I didnt go back or follow up on this job.

The other annoying thing of late is the information scams, I never give my phone number to any websites,I had to change my number in the past because I had so many cold calls, now I am getting all sorts again, I apply for around 20 jobs a week, a lot of them very generic but within days I start getting calls from 0333 numbers asking me if I have had an accident in the past two years or If I have checked to see if I am owed a PPI payout,I have spent a little time in Dublin recently and their policy on stealing numbers and cold calling without permission is super hot, its a shame the UK are so far behind.

    December 1, 2015 at 10:40 pm

  101. Hi I think you will find most of the cold calls / texts etc…….. people receive have in many cases been sent out after information has been farmed from these fake job applications.

I complained to Totaljobs about the jobs above to be told that their ‘Accounts executive’s’ are in daily contact with the client and the jobs are ‘Genuine’ But then Totaljobs probably receive some £500 per jod added – not likely to complain eh?

Strange thing is they (Transline) have 7 Warehouse separate (Same job and location) jobs advertised on Totaljobs website £250 appication bonus and easy application process same spec and location – big mistake postcode location on ad = G1 3SL this is prime Glasgow city centre – no warehouses for such for 3+ miles!

Strangely enough Transline had an open day in Maryhill Glasgow – £250 bonus and easy application walk in walk out with a job and wait for it …………bring a friend to apply too!

Funny how some 4 weeks later Transline are still trying to fill these vacancies?

      Jobseeker Scam Alert

      February 10, 2016 at 11:16 pm

  106. Volunteering for a deliverer of the Work Programme and actually making the effort to be friends with my local JCP staff has given me some personal insight into how things work on the other side of the fence.

Employment advisers and JCP staff are under tremendous pressure to meet what are effectively sales targets, where they’re selling jobseekers to potential employers. They are all signed up to short-term contracts which enable their employers to fire them at a moment’s notice for stuff that their managers do all of the time.

Speaking of managers, they may be nice people in person, but when they are in work mode, they become callous number crunchers, concerned only with demonstrable results that they can then use to improve their funding stream. While upper management reigns down from on high, barking orders without appropriate consultation with the people who have to actually deliver those orders, middle management brown-noses incessantly, trying to make themselves look as appealing as possible by stealing other people’s ideas, finding new ways to cut costs and being yes-men.

So don’t denigrate the front line staff that you’re in contact with if they appear to treat you harshly, in this sector, they are being jobsworths because going against standing orders truly is more than their job’s worth to their bosses.

As for Universal Jobmatch, it is against EU law for them to force you to accept the tracking cookies that enable the JCP to remotely view your access. While they will force you to use UJ, the site has a built-in feature that allows you to write your own jobsearch history. As long as you print off a screengrab before signing on, you hand it to them and it looks good enough, they are obliged to accept it as appropriate proof. You don’t have to put up with the poorly-built, scam ad-ridden nonsense that is UJ beyond that.

You are obviously not familiar with Universal Jobmatch. As for Miss Marple, well Miss Marple is a detective after all. You are obviously not familiar with daytime TV.

  121. I have been getting a significant number of calls from a variety of numbers since registering for one of the many fake jobs advertised by ‘Nationwide Placements UK’. This supposed job agency claims to be a member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) yet the REC said they had no record of such an organisation on their database. Nationwide Placements claims to be ‘a UK leading generalist recruitment agency’ and yet, according to companycheck.co.uk, has a net worth of just £17,800 and liabilities of £37,100. According to the website firstreport.co.uk, it has changed its name several times since it was incorporated in September 2013, and was previously known as ‘Lane Personnel Ltd’ and ‘ChippingWest Ltd’. Nationwide Placements provides no address on its website, a York-based telephone number (which does not respond to calls) and a company name registered in Bracknell (1012 Ocean House, The Ring, Bracknell RG12 1AX).

      • The following link shows that, as ‘one of the largest permanent placements solution providers in the UK’, they currently have 360 ‘jobs’ advertised on the government’s Universal Jobshite, which no doubt JCP work ‘coaches’ will ‘help’ and ‘support’ the unemployed and underemployed to apply for.

The vacancies are all copied and pasted from one or more of the following websites: Workcircle, Monster UK, Allthetopbananas.com, Adzuna, AdView, TipTopJob and construction-jobsearch.com

Even name Nationwide Placements (UK) Haven’t checked it out but it ‘feels’ scammy. ‘Sounds’ like cut ‘n’ paste and not a native English speaker who has written part of the site (‘Sounds’ African? Nigerian). Just so many ‘recruitment’ scams going on these days preying on jobseekers many of whom are desperate and vulnerable. Utter disgraceful!

This kind of stuff does sound a bit odd for a recruitment website! Probably the terms and conditions for both websites (and it is the same outfit behind both websites) have been copied and pasted from elsewhere.

  123. What really p*****s me of is:
the repeat adverts on a search from the same agency and again from different agencies.

Then you look at an advert description think it is appropriate then apply and indicate that it is not suitable or that you have applied for it already but you still see the same advert clogging your search results even months later. I think it is a mechanism to say UJM has an artificial high level of advertisements which looks good to the admin people but not to the candidates it’s just down right annoying.

Then there is the little tricks like while going through the search results never left click on a job you are interested in always choose open in a new tab on right click otherwise having left clicked when you go back it shuffles the result order so your back page is in a different sequence

I typically get 20 pages of 20 results a day and the interface is slow and can not download the whole lot in one go

The spamming problem only appears to have arisen very recently, which suggests it could well be one of the fake agencies recently brought to your attention – quite likely Nationwide Placement (UK) if not the DWP itself – but can be dealt with quite easily by requiring a captcha or something similar.

  158. Nice touch Spam Buster. Spam a site to warn users about Spam. Regardless reading the comments on this site it seems to be a bunch of left wing unemployable twats moaning as usual. GO OUT AND MAKE THINGS HAPPEN AND STOP RELYING ON OTHERS. Typical Socialist thought process, give me for free and do it now or I will hate. BREXIT!!!!!

  160. It is about time that this issue was brought to the attention of the public. I think it is ridiculous that websites such as the Job Centre/Universal match allows agencies and recruitment websites to post positions. It allows opportunists to take advantage of desperate job hunters who will provide their personal details in the form of a CV, covering letter etc for jobs that don’t exist or to people that are not registered recruitment business but are testing the waters to make a business. Most of the jobs advertised are recruitment agencies touting for business or feeds from job sites such as Monster etc. When I was unemployed a few years ago (recession) I alerted my local job centre to this practice but it fell on deaf ears. I caught one recruitment agency out by calling the actual employer and they were furious that this agency was advertising jobs on their behalf. Being that the Job Centre is a government site there should be policies implemented to stop this practice and only genuine employers should be allowed to advertise.
A tip to job hunters – always search the name of the company online before parting with your details. If they claim to be recruiting for a specific company go to that company’s website and see if the job is advertised there. This practice has to stop, someone needs to do a documentary on it and then maybe the government will put policies in place to stop it!!
