Dangers of Putting CVs on Job Sites.

with 16 comments

I am registered with a well-known employment agency.

That is, they have my CV and a model covering letter.

I use this to apply for jobs .

You get notified of a job, press “Apply” and your CV and the covering letter (which you modify for each application) appears.

Yesterday I found that that another person’s CV and model letter came up when I did this.

It gave great personal details about this individual (JB) who lives in the same town.

Address, phone, work history, and the rest.

I immediately E-Mailed back to the well-known employment agency.

There is no reply this morning.

  1. Does this mean somebody has your CV as well?

    • David:

It means that anyone signing up to UJM as an employer (even if they are a scam artist or criminal) can view your CV – UJM is a very unsafe and dangerous website, best to be avoided.

    • I’m waiting for a reply, or even an acknowledgement, before I say.

So far, two days, and nothing.

  3. Our work programme yesterday left people’s CV’s and application letters lying around for all other jobseekers to read. The neighbourhood has a high crime rate and many of the people just got out of jail, that are on work programme. Also drug dealing and ID fraud is high here.

Jobcentre seem very casual about having people get the details of other jobseekers, and are actually giving people other people’s details. The one computer (the other broke) for jobsearch for non online people (city population 20,000. jobseekers here: 8,000. free accessible public computers here: zero. jobcentre jobsearch computer: 1.) is right by the front desks at the places people sign on, so not private at all. While you do so,nearly 7 feet of nazi thug (G4S security guard, who is a racist homophobic ablist sexist scumbag) comes and towers over you watching what you type and asking personal questions. He even has a FACE like a pig. (The same one who hates immigrants, has expressed support for the BNP, etc…. and doesn’t like ‘fags’/’queers’.)

I tried posting the other month but the internet crashed, I was trying to say that a few sessions back, they suddenly (work programme) ordered me to clean the whole place and the kitchen, and do THEIR washing up, it was late by the time I got out. 2 weeks later they started doing the same again. In the kitchen I had a seizure while heating water, and poured boiling water over myself. I scalded both arms and one hand. The time after that, I refused, pointing out I was still sore and blistered from that. Then I went back and they made me fix their computers though I pointed out I can’t. I was pissed off as it is not my responsibility, it is theirs to fix their own stuff and clean their own place. Insurance surely does not cover me. If I was a paid employee it might not anyway, as I could foresee such an incident happening and the insurers tend to say ‘it is your fault for employing disabled people’. AFAIK under HSE laws I’m meant to refuse to do that stuff (in fact refuse to do ANYTHING, as I can have fits any time) – but only if I’m a paid employee!
Yesterday one of the guys in charge of work programme (smokes on duty and lets the others smoke) was back to his usual habit of punctuating every two words with ‘fuck’ or ‘fucking’.

Work programme (again I probably didn’t succeed in posting this the other month) staff, on my section all men, to jobseekers all men, staff were very inappropriate. I should be more specific so I will. Every time I sign on with the evil cow I have to see at the jobcentre, she asks me what I am doing at work programme. I repeat: that I have told her every other time and it’s the same as last time she asked: that nothing happens at work programme. There is no work and no programme. She asks what activities are there to help me. Well I reply there is nothing there that is of any help to me whatsoever, nothing that will help specifically me, and nothing set up to help the jobseekers as a group or individually. I say there is one placement only and since it’s as a builder, I am not allowed to do it (being disabled). That there are building trade tests on the computer but not of any relevance or interest to me. That everything is geared towards a below-average IQ and zero qualifications, which is the assumption made about everyone there. She asks what we do. I say we are put on the computer to look for jobs but it is only usually 20 minutes before they suddenly kick us out with no warning because the staff want to have their two hour lunch break then ‘work’ 2-3 (they do nothing really) and after 3pm start telling people to leave, so they can go home 2 hours early and still get paid for ‘working’ those hours. (A few times they stick you there for 3 hours though and there is no toilet. Well a) either a rickety one not accessible to disabled people, right next to the ‘training’ room we’re in, where everyone hears everything; or b) the disabled one with an OPEN window people walk past and see into, in a different building, the door doesn’t lock and right next to reception staff, now toilet broken and not fixed.) The jobslaughter lady then asks, well surely someone comes and helps you? I say there is nothing I need help with, the only things there are are when the staff come to do applications etc. for people who can’t read and/or have severe learning difficulties, are homeless, are drunk or on drugs, etc. They read job ads to people – but don’t even run any of the promised courses in literacy – and do people’s jobsearch for them. [Maths lecturer? research chemist? engineer?] (Wanting to keep my dole, I don’t add: and if these are your problems then you are about as likely to be wanted by an employer, as Ann Widdecombe is to become a stripper.) [Oh another thing I don’t add, is that sometimes the work programme lets in people not only already drunk/high, but lets them drink cans of fortified lager while doing jobsearch. Plus if you are too sick, injured, disabled, mentally ill, learning disabled, behaviourally/socially disturbed, whatever… or just struggling under piles of debt and stress like everyone else – then you have no time or energy for jobsearch and you are supposed to be on disability benefits probably, not forced onto the hopeless and futile waste of time that is jobsearch. I already got blamed for getting everything right, on stupid exams they made me take.] And she says why don’t you take advantage of this help? Like she was even listening to what I just said! Because, I say, I already know how to read and write etc. and can do all the things they were going to provide courses in but didn’t (because you cut their funding except their wages and lunch budget…).

So what I should say is that the question on what happens, I forgot earlier and can tell her something that did happen! The other month the staff were telling us how to use computers. They said, “Treat the computer like a woman. It is like making love to a beautiful woman. You need to find the clitoris.”

Taxpayers’ money is paying for this “Training”!

In the intervening months many ‘low level’ (!) negative comments were made, by staff and jobseekers, against: gays; immigrants, foreigners, non-white people, disabled people, women… and incidentally prostitutes, by people claiming they like to go to them. Should pass on the gen, really: then she’ll end up saying to them: ‘you’re crying? but I was told your fantasy was for me to bite it…’ (Unfortunately for both sides of the transaction, all of the working girls I know that are in the bracket of what these guys can afford, like £5, are living on the street, and sick with a number of things, poor ladies. None of the guys who mentioned liking the services of prostitutes, while slagging them off, are acquainted with the concept of WATER, either.) Okay really I should say ‘female sex worker’, prostitute is such a crap word, there is not much of an equivalent negative social term for the clients of sex workers. If they don’t like me reporting on their proclivities they can always go for protection to Max Clifford, oh hang on he’s just been done for perving on girls!

In our section of the complex, it’s an all-male environment and there is no respect for women at all. Think of Al Murray’s ‘Pub Landlord’ character. He asks women in the audience what their job is; and if they are a bus driver, engineer, doctor, lawyer, whatever, he goes “SECRETARY!”. (Has a female heckler ever replied; ‘Man-castrater’?)
[if you can’t employ anyone for this job due to budget constraints, there is a fish in Papua New Guinea that will do it for free, called the ball-cutter…] Outside of work he’s apparently a normal decent guy and I watched part of his series of documentaries the other year on German history. I mean it would be a possible job if the government really wanted to create jobs, now where does Gary Glitter (Paul Gadd) live? Probably the women in the other sections of the work programme building have no idea how their colleagues talk. And in each room including ours there is a plaque reading ‘they will not tolerate discrimination etc against etc etc etc’. Completely worthless – unless it serves for resting your arse on. Has anyone reported on the skiving and corner-cutting of the ‘staff’ at the work programme? Often they can’t be bothered to turn up. If we do that we get our dole stopped. They were asking eachother yesterday about how the day had gone. They called it hectic. How many people have we seen today, said one. “Eight.”

I’ll de-rant and dematerialise now, as thinking about these government-funded wasters is giving me a splitting headache.

“We want to say to people, you’re claiming unemployment benefit but you’re actually in work paid for by the state: you’re in work to find work. That’s your job from now on: to find work.”

Fine, so pay us the National Minimum Wage then.

  7. Universal This and Universal That

Here is a story on that other “universal” star – Universal Credit:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/apr/29/union-stage-benefits-protest

Even the PCS Union know it is a disaster from the start. What has a vast computer project got to do with “helping people move off benefits and into work” – especially when the IT system is not working properly itself!?

  9. 4th June 2013
    Our ref: FOI

    Dear Mr ,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on May 2013. You asked for:

    1. (a) IS WHAT A JOBSEEKER DOES ON A DWP COMPUTER SUBJECT TO THE OFFICE ADMINISTRATIOR SEEING WHAT THEY DO ON A COMPUTER TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ON WORK SITES AND NOT DOING OTHER STUFF ALSO
    (b) DOES DWP RECORD ALL ACTIVES THAT TAKE PLACE ON THERE COMPUTERS

    2. WHO IS ENTITLED TO APPLY FOR A DWP RAIL DISCOUNT CARD

    3. THIRDLY DOES IT NOT SAY IN HUMAN RIGHTS ACT TREAT EVERYBODY FAIRLY AND EQUALY THEN WHY IS THAT EVERYBODY WHO SIGNS ON HAS A DIFFERENT JSA AGREEMENT IN WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO TO LOOK FOR WORK IF YOU UNEMPLOYED YOU SHOULD ALL BE TREATED EQUALY AND FARILY AND NOT ONE PERSON HAVE TO DO THIRTY THINGS A WEEK TO LOOK FOR WORK WHEN NEXT MAN HAS ONLY TO DO TEN THINGS PLEASE EXPLAIN AS AM IN PROCESS TAKING LEGAL ADVICE TO THE UNFAIR PRACTICE THAT DWP ARE ADMINISTRATINIG AND IN BREACH HUMAN RIGHTS ACT

For ease of reference we have numbered your questions; our responses are provided below:

1 (a) Jobcentre staff observe and support people using our Internet Access Devices (IAD); this means they can usually see what people are doing.

    (b) The IADs in Jobcentre Plus offices do not retain any customer data provided the device is switched off after use. Jobcentres are advised to keep a record of people using the devices and the times they accessed them. The devices do have a security screening package on them to prevent access to certain sites that would/could cause embarrassment. The blocked sites are those similar to DWP staff restrictions – i.e. pornography sites, gambling sites etc. If such sites are accessed the provider can advise of a breach but only to the site the IAD is on and at what date and time.

    2. Please find below an extract from the eligibility section of Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card guidance.
In England and Wales & Scotland: At Adviser discretion:
    • Universal Credit claimants in the All Work Requirements group from 13 weeks to point of Work Programme referral
    • JSA Claimants from 13 weeks to point of Work Programme referral
    • IB/ESA/IS claimants actively engaged with an adviser in returning to employment
In Scotland the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card can be issued to claimants:
    • Whilst on the Work Programme 2 awards of the card (Max 3 months each) within the 2 year participation period
    • Who are Work Choice participants on Stage one in Scotland are entitled to one Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card valid for three months
Note: Work Programme participants in England and Wales are not eligible for the card. Where customers are to be deferred from referral to the Work Programme final cards can be issued at the deferral point for up to three months.
    3. I see from our records that in recent weeks you have been supplied with a copy of policy guidance in relation to the content of a Jobseeker’s Agreement and also links to relevant legislation (FoI 1474, FoI 1632, IR 321 & 322 refer). The further recorded information we hold pertaining to this latest query is the DWP Decision Makers’ Guide (DMG). The DMG explains what a Decision Maker will consider when looking into whether or not a sanction / disallowance should be applied to a particular claimant and provides references to the applicable legislation. Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act allows us to direct you to information already reasonably accessible to you; a link to the relevant chapter of DMG is provided below (you may find paragraphs 21571 – 21666 of most interest):

    http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/dmgch21.pdf

To put this response into context, you may recall that in IR 321 & 322 we explained to you that Freedom of Information Act relates solely to the supply of recorded information held by public authorities like DWP; the Act does not provide that we create information to either explain a policy under question or further explain information supplied under the Act.

If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the reference number above.

    Yours sincerely,

    Ben Johns
