Job Centres: Let’s Try a Test Case on Scum Sanctions.

with 78 comments

This article has not ceased creating waves.

Jobcentre staff have contacted the Guardian to say it is widespread practice for managers to set targets for removing benefits. PLabour responded to fresh evidence suggesting jobcentres around the country are being given targets to find reasons to take away jobseeker’s allowance from claimants by demanding that the government speed up and widen the remit of an independent review into the regime of benefit sanctions.

Liam Byrne, shadow work and pensions secretary, said his party would table amendments in the Lords on Monday to widen the terms of the proposed inquiry if ministers did not give an undertaking “to get to the bottom of every sanction issued by a jobcentre where targets were in operation”.

This bit stuck in me mind,

It was also reported that staff in a jobcentre in the West Midlands were this week told that the team who submitted the most Stricter Benefit Regime “Refusal of Employment” referrals would be rewarded with Easter eggs. The staff were told there was drive on this particular type of sanction.

To call the people doing this ‘bleedin’ filth’ is to be rude about filth.

We should be thinking about some serious legal – and why not more? – action.

  2. I have experienced this myself. I was approaching the 12th month of unemployment where I would be passed over to a private agency (Very common practice) the adviser deliberately found a minimum wage job selling gift cards to the public and offered it to me knowing I was completely unsuitable for this kind of work, not even in my jobseekers agreement so why find something totally outside it that I could not do?
She knew this and that I could not afford to take such a job knowing I would honestly refuse it, the next day (and I mean the next day) I got a letter threatening sanctions because I did not take a job that I could not do! Simply to reach a target of benefits stopped by putting a deliberate black mark on my record. She withheld the fact that this would happen if I declined!
This deceiptfull person was Sue Townsend from Stoke on Trent job centre.

PS I am and Electrician on a building site and always have been, my jobseekers agreement is for Electrical installation, property maintenance and Industrial wiring.

  3. Please feel free to contact your Jobcentre District manager to inquire what position your own Jobcentre occupies in the Sanctions League Table, and perhaps what action you are expected to take to help them improve their rating:

  4. Why has this disgusting practice taken so long to become common knowledge (except for claimants of course, who have known/suspected this was going on all along)?

It just goes to show what a bunch of bullying cowards many jobcentre staff are; too scared to speak out at this injustice in case they lose their cushy jobs, but only too keen to sanction any of us resulting in misery and destitution.

I hope they choke on their Easter eggs! A pox on the lot of ’em!

  12. “Conditions were horrific. Dangerous work was undertaken with scant regard for human life and the prisoners were often fatally undernourished. Some grew to believe the back-breaking work was in itself an attempt to kill them off”.

That quote comes from an interesting photographic report in the Daily Mail today about Nazi concentration camps devised to incarecerate enemies of the Nazi State – including the “Workshy”:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2299219/The-colour-darkness-Vivid-pictures-Nazi-concentration-camps-chilling-insight-dawn-Holocaust.html

You might have thought the above quote was a reference to Welfare Reform right here in the UK at present, where an alarmingly increasing number of people are already being killed off.

And don’t think concentration camps are of Nazi origin. The British devised them in the Boer War, and revived them in this country in the 1930s to deal with “the workless”! See this link here:

  24. Exactly…………
    Exactly…………

Food vouchers do NOT PAY YOUR GAS CARD…… OR ELECTRIC KEY

How can you cook with a food voucher and no electric?
How can you get a bus to the foob bank with no bus money?
How can you pay a direct debit with no cash, but a silly food voucher?
How can you get petrol with a food voucher?

you cant do anything, other then buy convienience food like pies, and pasties…. For you will be unable to cook with no electric or heating.

So, Eat pies, Get fat and malnutritioned in summer, Then die of pnemonia in winter as you have no gas.

This is sick, We need to start standing up together people……

Yesterday, sombody stood upto ian duncan smith, called him a ratbag! We need to start being more pro-active and stand up for ourselves. Sitting here getting angry isnt solving anything. Lets take ian duncan smith down, and Dont vote conservative ever again.

All parties seem corrupt, but at least labour dont come up with half the bullshit schemes cameron and ian duncan smith do……

For now, we must stand up for our rights, forget about who to vote for now as that is not immportant right now. We have to make a stand, Litterally. If you can & if you are able to protest, Then you dam well should get up and help in the coming protests. It will be monumental ! You should be proud if you decide to turn up and support us.

Lets start turning our anger, and reduction and withdrawl of our rights…. Into a real battle for our freedom and rights, They will get whipped from under our feet, as they are being taken away on a weekly basis. What rights we have left need to be protected before we all become slaves.

Please reader, Do somthing , attend out protests, Numbers mean descicions,

Dont just get angry, Do somthing!!! and do it Very very soon. Before its all too late…

  26. Benefit cuts: Monday will be the day that defines this government.

Those on low incomes, after all the vicious talk dismissing them as cheats and idlers, will be hit by an avalanche of cuts.

I refuse to believe most people would not be shocked if they knew, if they saw and if they understood. Even some of the 30% who always vote Tory might be appalled if they weren’t so well deceived by their ministers, MPs and newspapers, who lie knowingly and deliberately. People should know that historians will record the earthquake of social destruction that happened in their name, while they read of nothing but “scroungers” and the “soaring benefit bill”.

  27. 28 March 2013 – Universal Credit – Pathfinder update:

The Department for Work and Pensions released operational details on the early roll-out of Universal Credit today, confirming that the new benefit would start early in the Manchester and Cheshire areas from the end of April, before progressively rolling out nationally from October.

Ashton-under-Lyne will be the first Jobcentre to accept claims for Universal Credit from 29 April. Wigan, Warrington and Oldham jobcentres will first trial the new claimant commitment and will take claims for Universal Credit beginning in July, informed by the early testing in Ashton-under-Lyne.

This controlled approach will mean that Jobcentres intensively test the new system as it rolls out – ensuring that claimants are protected throughout.

Each of the four job centres involved in the early roll-out will be testing a range of activities to prepare for Universal Credit from April including:

trialling the new claimant commitment ensuring all new JSA and UC claimants are automatically signed on to Universal Jobmatch introducing a new fortnightly job search trial to make sure people are meeting the terms of their claimant commitment and installing more internet access points to help people make their claims.

A new network of UC staff ambassadors across all Pathfinder sites will also help claimants and partner organisations to prepare for the introduction of Universal Credit.

PCS opposes conditionality and sanctions targets.

    28 March 2013.

The Group Executive Committee (GEC) requested evidence from branches of DMA targets set locally, in order to raise them at national level.

PCS has raised our strong concerns with the Work Services Director both in face to face meetings and in writing over the past year.
Representatives from across the country have provided numerous examples which show that numerical targets or minimum expectations have been set.

There can be no doubt that the example highlighted recently at Walthamstow jobcentre is not an isolated incident.

    • Setting numerical targets is one of the reasons jobseekers are being sanctioned (left with no income for months or even years) for having the wrong colour of hair (red), even though the girl in question was a natural red-head, an similarly for the guys having designer stubble. JC “advisers” and their collaborators in the “work programme” are just throwing sanction doubts at the wall knowing that we are duty-bound (“targets”) to sanction ~ 70 of cases. It is shocking and utterly deplorable. DMA is beyond a joke now.

A recent FoI request to the DWP (2012-4383) revealed that of all claimants to JSA in the five years to March 2012, no less than 19% were sanctioned. This gives a better idea of the astonishing scale of sanctioning activity.

Im confused myself, But I have been sanctioned twice myself, I have a 3 year old son and its effecting him no end, Hes missing out on so much that I cant afford as they stopped my benifits. I wont be voting conservative, or lib dem. I hope nobody votes either. I know labour have been poor in the past, they have never taken things to these extremes!!! Which I consider to be worse then margaret thatchers era!!!!!!

Maybe UKIP, is the way forward. I know they are extreme too! But we have to escape from this tory cameron conservative governement. If things keep going there way ………. we will be homeless or hopelessly ensalved. we dont want that nobody does.

we need to get off our bums, start protesting, and start voting for the right people. I think the next election will have a record amount of voters, due to desperation of getting rid of cameron once and for all.

  53. Jobcentre staff do have weekly and monthly targets to hit.

And this does show as a human being our god given rights are being taken away from us in a very cunning way.

We are all enslaved in this bullshit system. The Jobcentre works under the corporation who you lot call the government. Our country is not in recession because it was bankrupt in 1930 and the bankers bought out our country along with Europe and USA and everyone who is in the UN. This is the reason we are in this shit as the bankers do not want to pay benefits but instead want to make profit.

These are all registered as company’s

    Jobcentres
    House of Parliament
    United Kingdom corporation ltd
    Gordon brown ltd
    David Cameron ltd etc
    Police stations
    Hospitals
    Schools
    Councils
All civil courts and magistrates crown court too.

This is the reason you never win a court case because the people who have charged you with a offence they are the same people in court judging you. A corpration is never going to go against itself.

Did you know 55% of everyone’s wages goes on taxes😢 they are stripping us naked.

I ain’t voted for 15 years and never will.

We need to stand up and take our country back.

The goverment and mps are laughing all the way to the bank while they make fools of us.

We don’t even need to pay all these taxes which these corporations have imposed on us as they are not lawful.

Taxes come under legal constitution which means it is a act.

A act is not a law it is only the force of law when consented by the governed.

Good luck everyone do some research and you will be shocked.

    Good luck

Good point, Peter i.e. the Road Traffic ACT, Fraud ACT, Sexual Offences ACT, Homicide ACT! DO NOT CONSENT into any ACTS!

  56. UNIVERSAL JOBMATCH STORY

Once upon a time there were three little pigs, who became unemployed.
Soon they had no food in the house, and being pigs, they didn’t like it.
They decided that one of them would have to go and sign-on at the Jobcentre.
None of them was very keen on this idea, for the Jobcentre had a bad reputation. It was known as a place where unpleasant things happened to people known as ‘the unemployed’.

So reluctantly, the first little pig went into town, and called at the Jobcentre
    to sign-on.
At the desk was a wolf, called Advisor, who smiled when he saw the little pig.
” Hello little piggy, I’m here to help you get a job ”, he said.
And the little pig signed all the papers that Advisor asked him to.
And foolishly, he allowed full access to his Universal Jobmatch Account.
He didn’t really understand this, but it seemed a good idea, and Mr.Wolf was so nice and friendly.
But the first time that the little pig didn’t apply for a job, even though it was only part-time and very far away, he was sanctioned, and lost his Jobseekers Allowance for a month. And so the little pig ran crying all the way home, and as he now had no money, and there was no social security thanks to an evil gang called Tories, he starved to death before the end of the month.

Now the second little pig saw what had happened to his friend, but he had no choice, and so he went down to the Jobcentre and signed-on.
He saw the wolf, called Advisor, who tried to persuade him to allow full access to his Universal Jobmatch Account.
But the second little pig was wiser, or thought he was, and so he declined DWP access to his UJ account.

The wolf didn’t like this, and tried to persuade the second little pig to give him access to the UJ account. But the second little pig would not . This was awkward for the wolf, because now he couldn’t snoop on the jobseeking activities of the second little pig. He couldn’t for example see if the little pig had refused a job, or what he was applying for. He couldn’t see if he had refused to apply for a recommended job. And he couldn’t get into the account to put lots of jobs on the list for the little pig to apply for, which the wolf liked doing.

This won’t do thought the wolf, I’ll have to try a trick to get into the UJ account. And so the wolf pretended that there was a special rule which meant that when the little pig came to sign-on he would have to let the wolf see his UJ account, and provide screen prints from it. Even though the little pig had officially declined DWP access. This wasn’t really true of course, because the little pig was protected by EU privacy law, and no access meant no viewing, and no screen prints either.

But the second little piggy didn’t know this, and he didn’t want to annoy Mr.Wolf or lose his Jobseeker’s Allowance. So next time he visited the Jobcentre, he let the wolf see his UJ account, and provided screen prints.

Now these screen prints showed that the second little pig had not been doing enough in his Job Activity List, and worse, that he had not applied for a job at the local bacon factory. And so the second little pig was sanctioned, and lost all his money. He would have starved to death too, but fortunately he was hit by a bus instead while crossing the road, which just goes to show.

The third little pig was the wisest of the three, and he went down to the Jobcentre and signed-on. He saw the evil wolf Advisor, and refused to provide
DWP access to his account. The little piggy didn’t listen to the wolf when he tried to persuade him, nor did he believe the trick about the special rule.
And the evil wolf huffed and puffed, and threatened the little piggy.
But the third little pig stood firm, for he knew that EU privacy law protected him. And the third little pig was able to keep his jobsearch private, away from the wolf. He didn’t have to explain why he hadn’t applied for a particular job.
The wolf couldn’t check his jobsearch activity, or jobsearch time.
He couldn’t put extra jobs into the account to be applied for.
All because the little piggy had declined access and kept his privacy. In fact the third little pig didn’t use the UJ account at all, for it was a stupid thing really, and full of things to trap an unwary pig.

So the third little pig just did what he had to do, and no more.
He posted a public CV on the UJ account, and he provided a single print out of this, the only print out he legally had to make. He gave this to the wolf, Advisor. He logged in to the UJ account from time to time to check if any employers had offered him a job. Of course they never did, but this was part of a strange game that was played at the Jobcentre, so he didn’t mind.

Most importantly, the third little pig did not use the UJ account at all for any jobsearching, nor put any of his applications into the online Jobsearch Activity List.
He just ignored the whole nasty thing. He did his jobsearch using other online search engines. These were much better anyway than Universal Jobmatch, which had been designed by a monster employed by the evil Tories.

The third little piggy wrote all of his jobsearch details down on a form that Mr. Wolf had to provide for him, even though he didn’t like this much, called a Fortnightly Jobsearch Record. He carefully filled this in every day, and came to his fortnightly sign-on with printed evidence of his jobsearch. This included Application Confirmations, which he could easily get from internet job search sites, and which were very useful for this purpose.
So this little piggy claimed his Jobseekers Allowance and lived happily ever after. Or at least as happily as you could do, bearing in mind the continual cutbacks in the benefit system.
And the moral of this story is, when you go down to the Jobcentre to sign-on, which little pig are you going to be ?

  57. The jobcentre is not fit for purpose, the people who work there have never had a proper job and don’t really live in the real world.

  58. I saw an advisor two weeks ago: she set me a task (this ridiculous S.T.A.R thing.. Situation, Task, Action,Result). Anyway, I did it ( a chimpanzee could do it!), but she didn’t even look to see what it was about! (and I took it home with me without her even looking at it. So what was the point of me doing it?) She then set me another ‘task’… Bring in a filled in application form (any application form). However, she said she would not be seeing me next time I signed on, but that she would see me in four weeks time. Naturally I assumed that I had to hand the application form in to her next time we met. But I went to sign on today and this fascist, poe-faced bitch (a different advisor) was disgraceful on so many levels… She treated me like a schoolboy who hadn’t done his homework! When I tried to explain why I hadn’t brought the form in (as I thought it was for the usual advisor I see), she basically implied that I was lying! Then she outrageously made threats about ‘Decision Makers’ over a pointless and meaningless application form! My jobsearch was up to date, present and impeccable. Yet this evil bint is quibbling and making threats about a piece of paper that has no relevance whatsoever to my jobsearch! I said to her why would I bring in loads of Jobsearch evidence, and not bring in a stupid application form?! Is that the sign of a skiver? It just doesn’t add up. She was having none of it: Saying she was ‘only following orders’ (that old Nazi classic!). So I went over to the local library, got the form from my email address (I did really have it ready and done!), printed the thing and handed it in.

My record in the Jobcentre is faultless (no lateness, no trouble, attended all their Work Programme crap etc.). And although I had never met this advisor before, she automatically saw me as lying, lazy, cheaitng scum. Just like she sees every other poor sod who has to go in there, I suppose… What bends my head is if I had the form with me, she wouldn’t even have looked at it anyway. They just want people to follow orders (no matter how childish and absurd they are!), jump through hoops and catch people out (if they can!). She also told me that applying for 45 jobs in two weeks for my chosen/qualified for field wasn’t good enough. She snottily stated that I should be applying for ‘anything’… And I know what the pencil necked fascist meant when she said anything: She meant dog’s work. Only problem with that is I am not a dog (her, on the other hand…). The joke is that I have probably got a better education and qualifications than she has got.Yet because I am out of work that gives people like her carte blanche to treat decent people like irritating livestock and unwanted vermin. When it is them that are the vermin! The wretched Tory/Lib Dem coalition are the heinous bastards that are in power, and these Job Centre advisors are collaborators. They should all, eventually, be held accountable for their despicable behavior.

Said evil minded bitch works at Prestwich Job Centre (Poe faced, skinny, wears glasses): and she has the morals and views of a Nazi!

  60. Trouble with these jumped up, modern day Mr. Bumbles is that they think anyone (and I mean anyone!) who goes into the Job Centre (or is unemployed) is thick and ignorant. Not so… I have already informed my solicitor of said incident (and she is a bloody good solicitor! I bet they also think that someone unemployed won’t be properly represented on a legal level!), and it is on record. And if I have to use it at any time in the future, then I will.

  61. Hello this is kinda of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs
use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.

I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to
get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
