Labour Market System Scam #485,672

Just a heads up to be careful about what jobs you apply for.

This is one example: LEAFLET DISTRIBUTOR that is NATIONWIDE, PERMANENT, 20+ HOURS WEEK and WAGE of £7.55 PER HOUR (ref: ERG/14706). The employer, AIRCELL MEDIA (Assumingly, tongue in cheek of “Air” referring to empty and “Cell” referring to a single Brain Cell) whom has a website at http://www.aircellmedia.co.uk (registered to “Lucent Internet Services” – lucent meaning shining, bright or translucent) and redirects via registrar domainmonster.com to aircell.homestead.com

This website which is a basic shell without any real details of the company apart from a brief list of what they are supposed to do along with claims of working with several big companies; notices such as “Its been brought to our attention that our telephones are working intermittently. this is being addressed. . . please use the form on the right or complete the application form.” are clearly visible

The job advert asks you to visit the above website and follow instructions. The website has a form which has the following fields First Name, Last Name, Email, Address Line 1, Town, Postcode, The Position you are interested in and Area interested to work in. This all follows the statement directly above it which reads: “Please only complete this form Once.  We will contact you shortly via email to proceed further with your application.”

Whats my point? Its a scam, you cannot complete an online application form, you cannot email or post a CV and you cannot download or request an application form. After giving them very basic details, although personal, they will get back to you with advice on getting the job. They claim to have over 10 offices, although dont have a proper website and only have details of one alleged office in Birmingham. They require you to tick a terms and conditions box (although there is a line stating by submitting the form you are complying regardless if you tick the box).

The terms (“Privacy policy”) as I have highlighted is as follows:

Privacy Policy

1. We may as a result of your interaction with the Website hold and process personal information obtained about you when you access the Website and use it for making decisions and servicing our relationship with you, for the purposes of fraud prevention, to understand your financial needs, to conduct our business and to provide you with better customer services and products from both Aircell and those of selected third parties, to evaluate the effectiveness of our marketing of the Website and for statistical analysis. We may pass this information to other members of Aircell Media Group or agents, as permitted by law so that they may do the same and they may pass information held by them about you to us so that we may do the same. We will not disclose any such information outside of Aircell Media except for fraud prevention purposes and/or if required/obliged by law or Governmental or judicial bodies or agencies or to our regulators under proper authority, or under a strict code of secrecy to sub-contractors or persons acting as our agents or where we have your consent or have previously informed you.

2. By submitting an application form through this site, you agree that Aircell media can contact you from time to time by post, fax, telephone or other electronic means, to tell you about other products and services, offered by ourselves or other carefully selected companies, that we believe would be of interest to you. We may also pass your information to third party companies for the purpose of them telling you about their services or products.

3. All information submitted in this form is held safely and securely by Aircell Media in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. We require all parties to whom we may pass your information to treat it with the same degree of confidentiality.

4. If we transfer your information to a service provider or agent in another country we will make sure that the service provider or agent agrees to apply the same levels of protection as we are required to apply to information held and to use your information only for the purpose of providing the service to us.

  1. those come up from time to time, the problems encountered when job centre staff forward you for anything like this out of desperation at interviews regardless of risks’,its all bottom of the barrel and best avoided.

  2. Where you highlighted number 2 under Privacy Policy sums it’s up. Looks like they’re more interested in gathering contact details of potential clients who they will contact to try and sell products and services to!

    • I had a mate who had Royal Mail down on his Jobseekers agrement. Unfortunatly this kind of leaflet distribution scam job was all he gotgot reffered to him time and time again by as you described “desperate jobcentre staff”.

As a rough guide See “Leaflet Distributer” mentioned and don’t bother reading any further. Same goes for the fraise “Earn up to”.

Lord Digby is having a go at the unemployed and living in Wonderland. He is going on about the two young lads he interviewed on his Pantsorama program who he says were on 12 grand each on the dole? Please tell me what forms I need to fill in to get 12 grand on the dole?, Come to think of it please tell me how I can get 12 grand in fulltime work in Lowestoft?

    • Someone with a Polish name who is in the “Welfare to Work Sector has just joined in on the onslaught on the unemployed in a similar way to the bravest of the brave WWII Poles joined in the Nazi onslaught on Czechoslavakia.

      I rest my case.

  4. Me,is there no escape from Digby Jones I ask myself. He seems to becoming a regular on these sort of programmes, unfortuately!

Think he was being ‘economical with the truth’ to put it politely as regards his tale about the youngsters getting 12k a year.

  5. One way to get a job!

A man, unemployed for 2 years, has landed a job after standing by a roundabout holding a placard pleading for work in Stoke-on-Trent.

    • He should have tried reverse psychology by standing next to the roundabout with a “Under No cicumstances do I wan’t a Job” Placard and held out till the offers went up high enough.

    • Andrew

We had someone who stood in lowestoft’s Main Street with a placard with “Will Work For Food” on it for years, I don’t think it got him very far just got him a load of abuse.

I hadn’t realised it was an American idea though in hindsight it had all the pointers.

  6. It was just a classic con…

(I love how they say only submit once… why? They want to SELL your details on, in a database. Why buy 100,000 client details when duplicate records exist? That is a bad deal for the people buying the lists which means Aircell can get less money for them. I would advise people to submit as many made up details as possible, screw them over!)

    2. By submitting an application form through this site, you agree that Aircell media can contact you from time to time by post, fax, telephone or other electronic means, to tell you about other products and services, offered by ourselves or other carefully selected companies, that we believe would be of interest to you.

Technicality here first which makes such acts unlawful. The boxes and button on the site are a web “form”… and similar to a contact form on a website its an enquiry form.

I dont need to explain what an application form is to any of you 😀 … but there is no way under a court of law pressing submit with your details on is an “application form” because you are not applying for a job just asking someone to contact you… you aren’t uploading a CV or giving over details such as work history etc. to help gain employment.

They give themselves the right to spam you will their marketing mailings… I do not see the point of saying carefully selected companies… although them saying what they feel will interest you stabs themselves in the back as they know you are looking for a job and nothing else.

We may also pass your information to third party companies for the purpose of them telling you about their services or products.

Third party means anyone else other than yourself and their company. I guess they had this statement to get past the previous one.

    4. If we transfer your information to a service provider or agent in another country we will make sure that the service provider or agent agrees to apply the same levels of protection as we are required to apply to information held and to use your information only for the purpose of providing the service to us.

They sell international…. Your name, address and email is a HUGE worry about identity theft. Someone somewhere will be seeing if they convert such information in more details… i.e. add you to a social networking site and see about getting your DOB, place of birth etc. and thats when the real fun begins!

  7. “Third party means anyone else other than yourself and their company.” It’s all well and good for the educated classes of IUA to know that, but, ask any nodding dog at random in the back of a car window, and I suspect a random person on the street and they wouldn’t know what “third party” means, maybe it partly do with the insurance connotation that confuses people allowing it to slip under their mental radar, “you’ll need third party with that, mate”… “oh, and you’ll need to allow us to give access to your data to third parties, it’s part of the programme, mate”.

    July 31, 2010 at 11:15 am

    • yeah, first party, second party, third party…, but third party does sound a lot better than any old Tom, Dick or Harriet 🙂

  8. http://www.aircellmedia.co.uk

Why not send fake names.. One’s that hurt.. like Mr Pink Torso, or Miss Ugly Duckling.. I’m sure there are worse (UYO imagination)and the like to your enemy’s home address – or your own – to see what and where this information goes, then goes, then goes.
I have similar issues, but with the ‘free sim card’ offers. I always use a spoof name – but my address, and sure enough.. named post comes thru’ da letterbox.

Now, look in public records for births around your actual time – or local deaths for similar age.. hey hey – new identity, laughing all the way to the online banks…!

  15. staff do mis advertise jobs for people

another tactic i use when applying is just give first name and phone number then they can phone you if they want you just put it on the cv like

i get some asking for my address via phone call after some extensive research from myself they are a con and the yget very defensive and they have a habit of saying you can not do xyz so i uo the tactic A little and ask for the manager then tell them whats what and most of the time get an appology i send off about 15+ letters a week and have never been given a so called back to work interview in nearly a year the job centre regular plays god with money stopping it my homes at risk every month and i’m qulified sparky with no work no tools no transport and a clean driving licence and willing to work for a discounted rate and still can not get fart so tell that to ministers as i would love to show them 2 suitcases of my letters i write and proof of postage my college certs things about my business idea to help people into work who the banks will fund but the goverment wont help in a business plan so you tell me where the heck i’ve gone wrong

i’m a laid back human being willing to do a majority of tasks what i cant figure out is for example a sparky on like 20 quid an hour is not willing to go below 10.00 per hour whereas me i’d work for free just to do something i enjoy i advertise in shops every week for free yes free and use liabries to advertise for free and it costs me a fortune in stamps a month i scrol the internet fro free post codes and use them to my advantage

so people in power ministers i urge you to cut high high earners and help people like myself and others who need help to clear debts etc and perhaps we could restore trust as i can see we may have a greece issue here at some point before people realise and actually do some thing by the way i’m a peaceful man tryign to help my own first and other’s along the way and not afraid to speak truth and will deal in fact’s proven beyond resonable doubt

and if any one has reporters details etc willing to publish peoples storys put my name down as i have had enough if i wasn’t back in college in septmeber as was finanically secure id just leave wih the family and go abroad or something

gosh i could write a book lol

  17. Leaflet Distribution is probably the best media available in today’s advertising world. It can be put through someone’s door and within an hour you can have customers calling you to perform the services you offered.
