YMCA Training and the OVERDUE Accounts

with 12 comments

Some more on our favourite New Deal Prime Contractor and Flexible New Deal Subcontractor: it looks as if YMCA Training will be fined for failing to deliver their accounts on time. It is almost a month overdue!

  1. I notice that the YMCA has as its “Nature of Business (SIC(03)):
8042 – Adult and other education
    9131 – Religious organisations.”

This means that we are sent by the State to a body whose business is “religious”.

What about those who are not “religious” and do not want anything to do with “religious” organisations?

    • We have all heard of the RRA etc. and most are aware that it has been unlawful to discriminate against peoples religions for some time now too… (i.e. not just on race)

Actually under law not having a religion or a belief (or one whcih falls under a mainstream religion) also falls under the laws regarding religion.

      Not many people know this.

  2. Also filed their Charity Accounts late in 2008.

    Last available Charitable accounts…

    [Income]

    Voluntary 0
    Trading to raise funds 0
    Investment £93,000
    Charitable activities £22,053,000
    Other 0
    Total: £22,146,000

    [Expenditure]

    Generating voluntary income 0
    Governance £262,000
    Trading to raise funds 0
    Investment management 0
    Charitable activities £21,562,000
    Other 0
    Total: £21,824,000

    [Conclusion]

It costs a quarter of a million pounds for their Governance of their business HOWEVER they couldn’t organise the submission of their accounts.

As a company they need to submit Accounts and an Annual Return each year. As a registered charity they also have to submit seperate Accounts and a Return to the Charity Commission.

Thats only 4 legally required documents to be delivered each year.

Having participated in preparing documents for a charitable audit within a small team it is a lot of work but for a business with an annual income of £22m it should hardly be any difficulty really.

They have 11 trustees – not sure how many directors but typically charities work as of having each director as a trustee… and then they have a CEO and other management team I can’t really advise right now as their website is currently DOWN (perhaps they haven’t paid their web host neither)

    YMCA Training Trustee list:

    MRS LOUISE DOUGLAS
    MS SUSAN MARGARET HAMMOND
    MR MARTIN JOHN KAVANAGH
    MR MICHAEL TURNER
    MR STEPHEN FINCH BA(HONS)PCE
MS CLARE FRANCESCA CHEETHAM SCOTT BOOTH
    MR CLIVE BODLEY
    MR DENNIS SIMMONDS
    MRS NOLA LEACH
    MS SARAH JOHNSTON

  3. What with these accounts being overdue, I sincerely hope that these conundrums are not in financial trouble, it’d be such a shame to see them go under 🙂 And they can take Working Links, Reed in Partnership, A4e and all the other assorted rag-bag conundrums with them 🙂

    • Never – they would go begging to DWP who would bail them out instead of terminating the contract and giving it to another provider.

  4. Another thing workfare providers don’t pay is the rent, that’s why you find so many changing office premises on such a regular basis. Working Links is particularly good at this.

  6. […] & YMCA Training: Overdue Accounts Ipswich Unemployed Action recently reported that YMCA Training failed to deliver their accounts in time. Flexible New Deal Scandal can now reveal that A4e’s A4e Management Ltd business also […]

    • They should be filed soon as YMCA Training has visited the article today.

Its a £150 fine for under a month or £375 for over a month but under 3 months. I am sure they will worm their way out of paying claiming some “Act of God”.
