Ipswich Unemployed Action.

Campaigning for Unemployed Rights.

Workfare Coming To Suffolk.

From Harpy Marx,

“Workfare, euphemistically known as ‘Work for Your Benefit’ schemes,  is going to be piloted in a town near you from 2010. The pilots will take place in Greater Manchester, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk and will run for two years from October 2010.”

This is something which we will organise against. I have already had talks with the President of our Trades Council and he suggested a campaign. I was initially a little – a very little – reserved. Because nothing concrete we could target clearly was in the offing.

Now we have it.

  2. First the banking fiasco, then the MP’s expences then now this….just how out of touch with reality can one government get? Thanks to Gordon and Co. the last remaining companies in the Lowestoft area are now going down like skittles, thats why so many people here don’t have jobs, by the time this idiotic idea kicks in there will simply not be enough companies to take the amount of unemployed, at present last time I was on New Deal a good 70% of people didn’t even get a plaicement so it’s going to be total farce. Any company participating in this should be shamed and boycotted, there is already a growing backlash up here against parasitical charities that have their greedy snouts in the New Deal trough.

  4. I wish people would come to their senses and realise the unions are going to do what they have always done and supported the government.
They will Negotiate and we will be in the same position as we have always been in.
On my website (raw-rap.com)I`ve started a group (Unemployment Movement) and well argue for a stronger stand on the issues facing us.
I got to say that this time round we are entering a completely new game and the attacks not just on welfare but on disability will be relentless.
I`m not one of the greatest writers or thinkers but realise we are in `Danger`, so if your not willing to go to the website contact me (admin@raw-rap.com)with any ideas on the way forward.
Standing on a street corner, at a stall giving out advice will not fix this situation either.

  5. Lowestoft’s finest…companies are not going down like skittles, one company is closing. And NDS – yes, you do have one year to plan…or better, get a job.

  6. For those unlucky enough to end up on the Workfare pilot the only thing I can suggest you do is SABOTAGE IT. Things like a go slow, do a rotten job (whatever it is), loose tools, arrive late (say you the bus was stuck in a traffic jam), superglue locks. Be as disruptive as you can -within reason. Try and do a little bit everyday, but try to be subtle not too obvious.

The sort of tasks the government envisage Workfare particpants doing will be the same sort of things as people on Community Payback. Your only crime is to be unemployed!

Remember what Sir Arthus Harris said “They have sewn the wind and will reap a whirlwind”. This is war.
